Hello,

When you specify a password for Avast, you are prompted to enter it when trying to access certain parts of the program.
Normally when you type the password  in, the characters are hidden by asterisks.
Starting this morning there are no asterisks when you type your password in, but only small squares (the same squares you can see for missing fonts).

Any confirmation?

Sounds like a GUI glitch. Have you rebooted since? Have you tried a repair?

For me password dialog seems working fine. Asterisks (or something like that, on Japanese Vista/7 password mask character is changed) are shown normally.

Considering you are on XP, it could be a font cache corruption.

Thanks for your reply, NON.

The problem is only with the Avast password dialogue box, no issue with other programs.
Moreover, yesterday I checked my father's laptop (same OS/same security software) and is experiencing the same problem with the password dialogue box.

I had tried deleting the font cache (before starting the thread) to no avail, unfortunately.
