The disk label is boot and it has the windows directory and the system32 files on it, don't know what the actual files are to boot it, if you let me know I can look. Is there any way to check that the main hard disk is working?

Thanks

Could you burn a CD as I would like to check the structure of the disc

  • Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop
  • Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
  • Double click OTLPENet.exe and this will then open imgburn  to burn the file to CD
  • Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
  • As the CD needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads  :)
  • Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop.
Note : as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy
  • Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
  • Select the Windows folder of the infected drive if it asks for a location
  • When asked "Do you wish to load the remote registry", select Yes
  • When asked "Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning", select Yes
  • Ensure the box "Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OK
  • OTL should now start.
  • Press Run Scan to start the scan.
  • When finished, the file will be saved  in drive C:\OTL.txt
  • Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system.
  • Right click the file and select send to : select the USB drive.
  • Confirm that it has copied to the USB drive by selecting it
  • You can backup any files that you wish from this OS
  • Please post the contents of the C:\OTL.txt file in your reply.

Evening Essexboy

There is definite progress and I think we are back where we started but I wanted to run teh logs past you again to see if I am alright to use the original text you created for me.

I ran the reatogo and it could not see my C: drive, however when restarting there is a configure option for the SSD and main hard disk and I removed the sync setup for these and in the BIOS boot set up there was a Realtek Boot Agent after this the Reatogo could see the main hard disk so I restarted again and this time the Startup repair seemed to work and has got me back into windows, I do not understand what has helped get me back into window adn it seems to be a restore point just before Ithe weekend as the OPL and MBAM programs downloaded on teh Sunday could not be found although the text logs were still on the desktop.

Anyway I have run the programs again and attached copies of the log files again which may well be the same. If you could have a look and let me know it woudl be greatly appreciated.

Tthanks

Jon

OK we are back at square one but this time I will take a different approach as I will need to be carefull of the SSD drive.  So this will be one step at a time.

I have just had an unbootable system at G2G where the initial fix was to system restore, that failed.  But for some reason on the next boot startup repair started on that one and it rebooted.  It must be something about windows 7 I think

  • Download RogueKiller  and save it on your desktop
  • Quit all programs
  • Start RogueKiller.exe.
  • Wait until Prescan has finished ...
  •     Click on Scan

  • Wait for the end of the scan.
  • The report has been created on the desktop.
  • Click on the Delete button.

  • The report has been created on the desktop.
  • Next click on the ShortcutsFix

  • The report has been created on the desktop.
Please post:    All RKreport.txt text files located on your desktop.

Thanks Essexboy

I ran Roguekiller and attach the three files. I was asked to restart after pressing the delete button and did that.

The computer is certainly running a bit clunky with lots of noise from the hard disk and it is slower to boot up windows, so I assume it jsut needs some cleaning up of the registry. As long as I can get rid of the virus I will be happy to find out about the other bits,

Thanks

OK that is the services file replaced

Next I will confirm that the other services files that are infected are killed.  Once that is done we will look at the repairs

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.[/b]
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

3.  If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Thanks Essexboy

Ran Combofix and the computer seems to be working well again,I think I just need to sort out the boot from SSD optoin as it seems to be using the hardisk a lot more during boot up than it used to.

Ran Avast and no viruses detected.

Thank you so much for your help and sorry fr being such a testing case. I have attached the combofix file as requested.

Not a problem, this was the first SSD I have done, so I have learnt from it

1. Close any open browsers.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
Quote
File::
c:\windows\system32\services.exe.FCDB711B7B907334
c:\windows\system32\services.exe.B351120E3592A4CD
c:\windows\system32\services.exe.EC237657652789C8
c:\windows\system32\services.exe.C24FB750B79A2F0D
c:\windows\system32\services.exe.AD39BC5FF9D9EA1E
c:\windows\system32\services.exe.32993739A9198561
c:\windows\system32\services.exe.AA04D956934546AF

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exeWhen finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3.  If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Evening Essexboy

I have run Combofix and attach a copy of the log file - does this mean we are there or is there still some more bits that need doing?

Thank you

Don't know if there is anything in particular I should be looking for, but it seems to be working fine after booting up with all programmes opening quickly and correctly which it wasn't doing when it was infected so thank you very much.

Think I just need to get the SSD back to handling the boot up to speed the boot up time, bt I a, hoping I can sort that out.

Thanks

Subject to no further problems   :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset  System Restore points:

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
    Quote
    :Commands
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
Remove ComboFix

  • Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
  • In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall (Notice the space between the "x" and "/") then click OK

  • Follow the prompts on the screen
  • A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled
Run OTL and hit the cleanup button.  It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
  • Go to control panel
  • Select folder options (Appearance > Folder options in category view)
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application.

 Upgrading Java:
  • Go to this site  and click Do I have Java
  • It will check your current version and then offer to update to the latest version
SPRING CLEAN

To manually create a new Restore Point

  • Go to Control Panel and select System
  • Select System
  • On the left select System Protection and accept the warning if you get one
  • Select System Protection Tab
  • Select Create at the bottom
  • Type in a name i.e. Clean
  • Select Create
Now we can purge the infected ones
  • GoStart > All programs > Accessories > system tools
  • Right click Disc cleanup and select run as administrator
  • Select Your main drive and accept the warning if you get one
  • For a few moments the system will make some calculations
  • Select the More Options tab
  • In the System Restore and Shadow Backups select Clean up
  • Select Delete on the pop up
  • Select OK
  • Select Delete
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Malwarebytes.  Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
