After rebooting after a full system scan using Avast, my laptop fails to boot, briefly coming up with a BSOD then going to a Windows Error Recovery screen, trying to boot using the last known good configuration from that screen does the same thing. Starting in safe mode causes it to stop at aswRvrt.sys then restart.
I've seen others with a similar problem but the topics contain dead links so I haven't been able to follow the instructions in them.
Anyone have any ideas on how to proceed?

You have been instructed to follow my link in your topic that you said above. Go back and Read first because it looks like your computer is infected and it happened when you didnt have avast installed,so dring and nam.utkarsh go ahead and create a topic here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0

It sounds as though nam.utkarsh is having a similar problem to me and if so he wouldn't be able to do anything in the links you posted as the computer won't boot at all, even in safe mode.

I haven't been able to follow the steps to create a log as I don't have another computer running Vista.
