My Computer Has Been Running Oddly
« on: October 27, 2012, 05:24:00 PM »
I run anti-virus scans every week, update my drivers/windows if there are any and run a clean-up. But for the past few days my computer has been running a little off. And its dropping frame rate in some places, the reboots aren't actually rebooting. I'm finding myself having to, as much as I hate it, hard shutdown. Its running far slower than I have ever experienced as well. Worst thing I fear is it could be a hardware issue but I'm attaching my recent log from Malwarebytes to see if you could potentially find the issue for me.

Hi no apparent malware visible..  Have you recently emptied your temporary files and defragged the hard drive

To empty the temp files I would recommend

Clear Cache/Temp Files
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two.  Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Done all of that. I'll let you know the results when I'm able to get home from work. See if there are any improvements.

Well the computer is running a little back on the normal side but I'm still noticing some odd behavior, for example my CPU usage is sky rocketing quite often while I'm running little to no programs and staying up at about 90-100% for a constant amount of time.

I'm assuming there might be a rootkit behind the scenes somewhere.

Nevermind, Malewarebytes would have picked up on that. I dont know, maybe its just this client I'm using. Its been acting weird on me. I did a full uninstall/reinstall with it, and it still acts up a little bit.

Anyways, thanks. You've been a lot of help like always.

Lets get a second opinion on the MBR, as that is the one problem that can survive a re-install

  • Download RogueKiller  and save it on your desktop.

NOTE: If using IE8 or better Smartscreen Filter will need to be disabled

  • Quit all programs
  • Start RogueKiller.exe.
  • Wait until Prescan has finished ...
  •     Click on Scan

  • Wait for the end of the scan.
  • The report has been created on the desktop.
