The file ... MtsAxInstaller ... is a worm.

http://www.prevx.com/filenames/42709160361573101-X1/MTSAXINSTALLER.EXE.html

I suggest that you first run a boot time scan with avast, post the results, then run HiJackThis, and post the results log here.

Please download HijackThis from the link below. Do not download HJT to the desktop but instead download it into it's own folder on the hard drive.

Run the program but do not make any fixes and then post the log results using the "copy & paste" method. It will probably take more than one post to be able to get the complete log posted.

OR, you can post it as an attachment to your post by clicking on "Additional Options..." below left of the posting box.  Someone will review your log and then offer help.

Hi again -

Sorry for the delay but I was away from home on Sunday. Anyway, the header is important as it shows me that you are using the most up-to-date version of HJT (of course, since I had you download it from a link supplied by me but not everyone does), what OS is being used, what version of IE is installed (even if it is not your default browser, it should be kept up-to-date since it is part of the OS), and the boot mode. Occationally, someone will post a HJT log from a computer running in safe mode. This is not good because not everything will be loaded which might hide some bad entries.

OK ... on with the analysis which shows the following problems :

C:\Program Files\Common Files\New Boundary\PrismXL\PRISMXL.SYS
The PrismXL service lets the Client deploy Tasks on a target computer regardless of the current users permissions.
This may not be a problem but I wanted to make you aware of it if you were not aware. As long as you know of this and understand it's use, it will be OK to have and there is no need to fix.

Have you checked the virus chest of avast to see if MtsAxInstaller is in the chest?
right click "a" ball on task bar  >  click on "Start avast antivirus"  >  when the user interface opens, click near the top left of the interface to access the menu  >  click on "Virus Chest"  >  look in the Infected files section. If it is in the chest, just leave it there.

If MtsAxInstaller is not in the chest, I suggest that you download, install, update, and run malwarebytes antimalware (MBAM) to see if it can find MtsAxInstaller. Please post the results if you run MBAM.

It appears that MtsAxInstaller is not on your computer since MBAM found nothing.

Are you still having problems?

charley,
i recently downloaded AOL Instant  Messenger. During installation i told my comodo firewall to treat this download safe ...then it kept asking me about allowing that worm.  i kept saying no and eventually canceled the installation.  So maybe the worm is in the aol program on my computer waiting for me to install.  i do  not need instant messenger that bad. a few months ago i had no firewall and i would have downloaded that piece of crap without knowing.

i guess the pcdefender i saw in my other computers MBAM  results was a false positive. but things are running fine, thanks

Instant Messenger(s)

 :)  Hi :

As to Instant Messenger(s), AOL's is considered the worse, when it comes to
security vulnerabilities . Anyone using this should run the FREE "AimFix"
available at http://jayloden.com/aimfix on a regular basis . I use the much
safer Yahoo Instant Messenger . Some prefer to use an IM "Client" ,such as
"Pidgin" from  www.pidgin.im/ or "Trillian" from www.ceruleanstudios.com .

I am glad your computer is fine.    :)

Since we found nothing related to MtsAxInstaller with neither HJT nor MBAM, it was probably not installed.
I would delete the AOhell IM junk and ......

I would suggest that you also follow Spiritsongs' advice above.

I use no IM services but if I were, I think I would use Trillian but the choice is yours.
