Title: Avast Installation Error 0 (00000000) Last performed operation was: spawning
Post by: av8915 on September 16, 2010, 06:16:56 AM
Hi, please help me.

I'm trying to install Avast 5.0 Free Version but every time I open the avsetup.exe, it eventually comes up with a message that says 'An Error 0 (00000000) has occured. Last performed operation was: spawning'.

I'm trying to install it on a win 7 64-bit hp dv7 model laptop, and I'm sure it has enough ram and memory, because it's a pretty new laptop and I haven't used it much.

Thanks

That could be just a bad download. You could try re-downloading it again.

Also, are you installing this from admin acct.?,
and... are you installing this over the top of 4.8, or have 4.8 previosly?

I think the problem might be that I was using Opera, and in Opera, when you download the same file again, it actually just restarts the download and doesn't replace the previous one. Because, the first time I downloaded, I accidentally clicked open before it finished downloading, and it gave me with the error. I will try downloading it again and Thanks a lot.

Something new is out there I think

I have two pcs (Vista HP and Win7 HP) Both throw this error on install. Both have had AntivirusGT removed and something is still lurking, just about to tuck into the regisry and processexplorer to find out what.

AVG and Bullguard wont even run (my two backup choices)

I have another with AntivirusGT on it on the rack, I'll post back if that does the same.

@ RealityTech,

AVG and Bullguard wont even run (my two backup choices)

I have another with AntivirusGT on it on the rack. <snip>
Running two or more AV's on the same computer can create all kind of mysterious windows errors and false detections.

Clash Of The Antivirus Apps:
http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles/2003/s1407/38s07/38s07.asp (http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles/2003/s1407/38s07/38s07.asp)

Why you should never run more than one AV (see reply from quietman7):
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?s=49db784baecf17e7b189c833aafb624d&showtopic=260844&view=findpost&p=1441638 (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?s=49db784baecf17e7b189c833aafb624d&showtopic=260844&view=findpost&p=1441638)

However, Windows Defender and MS Malware Removal Tool are not AV.

I suggest that you uninstall the other AV's via the vendor's uninstaller removal tools to ensure that all remnants are removed:

Then you can uninstall Avast and do a clean install.  When uninstalling Avast, use the Avast uninstall Utility Tool http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility) and uninstall in Safe Mode, but install in normal mode.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you. :)

Please read and follow the instructions here http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility for a clean install, reboot when completed and reinstall the latest avast 7.0.1426

Please note that next time it would be better to start a new topic for yourself rather than posting in this outdated thread.

Also if you have had other AV's installed on this system in the past it would be wise to run removal tools to delet remnants, even for preinstalled AV's that came with the system when purchased http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/
