Is this dangerous?
« on: July 21, 2009, 11:54:07 PM »
I know it says "Use these tips at your own risk!", so I guess the result may not
be 100% sure at hijackthis.de. But I'm just asking to be sure - is this a virus/hijacker
as it says? If I'm not wrong, this is the program for my webcam.

Thanks.

Hi Pierolle,

But I think this can be ignored: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Monitor] C:\WINDOWS\Philips\SPC220NC\Monitor.exe
that is your WebCam software, made by Philips Electronics Nederland...

Where I think the flag originated: Go here and establish this: http://74.125.77.132/search?q=cache:-xkKiFgCAFsJ:www.exterminate-it.com/malpedia/remove-huntbar-btin+SPC220NC/Monitor.exe&cd=1&hl=nl&ct=clnk&gl=nl&client=firefox-a
If all the symptoms mentioned there aren't available, you do not have this malware...

You could also check Monitor.exe against the scanners at virustotal.com and report here...

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!

Hi Pierolle,

As Polonus has explained, the file is not necessarily bad...

A very good chioce you have made to report here first, I imagine many people just follow the results on that page without question. When many of the reports are user based, this can have complications.

Well Done :)

Thank you scott. So I did a test at VirusTotal and you can see the result
below (attached image).

So I guess there's nothing dangerous about it!
