Odd scanning issue
« on: October 30, 2010, 06:51:29 PM »
Hello,

I've been using the free version of avast for sometime to see if it's something i wanted to buy and i was actually about to buy it, but then i noticed some really odd.

The problem is the scanning is slow, but only on one partition of the hard drive. I've one hard drive in my PC that's split up in 3 partitions and it seems like the scanning is only really slow on the drive with windows on.

On my C drive the slow one it scans with 1-2mb/sec sometimes it goes up to 10-15mb/sec. On the D drive it scans with 60-80mb/sec and goes all the way up to 300 buffered.

Now i've tried to copy some files around to see if there was something wrong with the C drive, but copying a 1.6gig file to the C drive it transfers with about 45mb/sec and copying the file back it's all the way up to 60+. So it seems there's nothing wrong with the drive. What could it be?

Sorry if the problem is abit hard to understand, but english is not my main language. Thank you.

I'm using 5.0667 according to avast. Hope that answered your question.

Can you go to the scan settings and confirm that your settings are as in the picture - with this my full system scan take about 10 to 15 minutes

It's exactly as you have it there.

It seems to be an issue only if i select the C drive without scanning any other drive that it's slow. If i pick the full scan it runs normally.

If i scan the windows folder or any other folder manually it's really slow, while on the D drive it's normal.

I'm afraid i don't speak any of those languages. Anyway it's seems there's nothing wrong with my hard drives and i just need a full scan to get it to the proper speeds, so it's not that big a problem. It's a problem i can live with.

Thanks alot for the help.
