big, big hallo to everyone.
I am a new, foreigner user of this forum and ....
I would like to find out if automatically update is the only way to have the newest version of virus database.
Thanks, have a nice day!

No, you can initiate the update process e.g. if you right-click the blue icon with an "a" character in your system tray (near clock) and select UPDATING -> iAVS UPDATE.

See help of avast! (F1).

PP,

Welcome!  Glad to have you with us.
I would assume that you want to "manually" check for updates?
This is very easy to do.  Right click on the "Avast" ball in the tray.  Click on Updates, select Database or Program, and then click OK.
Thats all there is to it!

Why, may I ask, do you wish to "check" for updates.  Avast does this automatically for both Database and new Programs.
The default is to automatically download and install new database updates, and alert you to a new program update.  I have my Avast set to automatically do both.

Hope this helps.
Good Luck

PP,

OK. I got your email and your test worked.  I understand what you are asking now.
The virus database is stored in the Avast directory in the DATA folder.
The DB file "integ" can be copied and then moved to your second computer.
This should update your database file.

Program updates are not so easy to do this way, since they require an installation process.

I am not sure why you are concerned with the second computer if it is not connected to the internet.  That is where AVAST shines!

If both computers are located in the same place, why not just hook both up and let Avast update itself?

Hope this info helps.

Good Luck.
