Update problems with Home 4.8
« on: September 23, 2008, 08:52:58 PM »
Hi. I have Avast home 4.8 installed on a Vista laptop, an XP desktop and an XP laptop. The first two work fine but I cannot update on the XP laptop....the update process always says it cannot connect to server. This happens on auto or manual update. All machines are connected to the same Netgear DG834GT router, desktop cabled and both laptops wireless, and all run Zonealarm with the same programme settings for Avast. Help!!!

The cannot connect to server is frequently due to the firewall blocking avast.setup.

Check the Program Control on the effected system for the entry for avast.setup and delete it. Now do a manual update, your firewall should ask permission again.

ZA on occasions seems to have a bout of amnesia when it comes to permissions even though in the program control it is allowed and deletion of the entry is the best way to resolve it.

Maybe deleting the entries in ZA program tab of settings, booting, allowing again.
