Title: Boot-Time Scan Error 42127 {CAB archive is corrupted}
Post by: TheHawk on September 21, 2011, 11:28:36 PM
I recently switched from Microsoft Security Essentials to Avast after discovering a Trojan on my Dell Win 7 64 bit Laptop. Avast removed the Trojan, then I ran a Boot-Time Scan and it found and removed another Trojan.

The Boot-Time scan also found this error every time I run a scan.

File c:\windows\Syswow64\config\systemprofile\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\temporary Internet Files\Content.IE\62AXOPQ5\avvdat[1].cab| >avvscan.dat Error 42127 {Cab archive is corrupted}

I admit to not being to tech savvy when it comes to computers, but I was hoping that someone could help me and let me know what this means.

Thanks!

- Corrupted Archive file, this could simply mean that avast is unable to unpack it to scan the contents of the archive and assuming it is because it is corrupt. Even if it were corrupt there is nothing that a user can do to resolve any corruption, short of replacing the file.

So essentially there is nothing you need to do..

scan errors or files that can not be scanned are just that....does not mean they are infected

it is located in your temp folder so if you empty it the scan error should be gone

TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer

TFC requires a reboot immediately after running. Be sure to save any unsaved work before running TFC.

Thanks for the help guys.

So it is not anything to worry about?

I tried running the TFC you recommended, but it did not solve the issue. After running another boot-time scan it still came back with that error. I suppose I will just ignore it since it is nothing harmful.

You're welcome.

Nothing to worry about, though I'm surprised that TFC didn't empty the temporary Internet Files\ folder. You should be able to manually empty your temporary Internet Files (browser cache) from within the browser.

Clean your web browser's cache and history. You don't need any additional tool to do that.

As long as the files which are corrupted are in the 'temp folder' you can simply delete those particular file/sAuguaty. Locate the file and delete it. Avast tells you where the corrupted file is located. Empting the Temp. folder does not always empty sll the files so just follow the first instruction. The 'corruption error' will not appear again.
Thanks
