Avast wont let me run scan. HELP!

As the title suggests, I can't run the scans, any of them, on my computer. The recent update of AVAST will not allow me to run scans of my computer. I tried downloading the program again to see if that would fix it, but it did not. I was wondering if anyone knew what I needed to do to fix that problem.

Are you getting any avast errors displayed ?

No. It just sends the program back to the task bar, minimizing it.

Since this has happened since a recent update, I would suggest a clean reinstall (not sure if this is what you did) following these steps.

- Download the latest version of avast, 8.0.1489 and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn't save your last download). You didn't say which version you are using so there are direct links for the different versions below. Use that when you reinstall.

- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all versions).

• 1. Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs, if you can't do that (as appears to be the case) start from the next step, reboot.
• 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), first for 7.x if previously installed and then for 8.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.
• 3. install the latest version, reboot.
