Title: Avast Internet Security cannot start
Post by: oldbelcher on November 24, 2013, 02:08:49 AM
After downloading and restarting my computer an AvastUI.exe - System Error message appeared.  It read, "The program can't start because HTMLayout.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."  When I attempted to reinstall, I found that I needed to purchase the software again.  I'm not about to do that because I originally purchased a one year subscription on 2/24/13.  Today is 11/23/13!  Is AVAST ripping me off?

No, all you need to do is find the license and insert that at the beginning of the install process.

Your license should be saved in the admin My Documents folder.  Use browse button to link that licence to your install window and continue.

Were you trying to use the updater within the gui (program window) when this happened?

Suggest doing what is known as a clean install if the previous installation was from an older version, say, 8.0.1497 AIS.

You'll need the following:
http://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utility (http://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utility)
http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle (http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle)  Use any tools found within to finalize removal of any old a/v's you might have had in the past.  Reboot after use of each one.

Finally, should you need this after all this is done, use RejZor's Removal Tool here:  http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/ (http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/)

Other tools, should you need them are here, also at the same site as above:  http://rejzor.wordpress.com/2013/11/01/removal-tools-for-norton-and-mcafee-security-programs/ (http://rejzor.wordpress.com/2013/11/01/removal-tools-for-norton-and-mcafee-security-programs/)

Note:  Not saying you must use any of RejZor's tools, but only providing the option so you can.  aswclear.exe works just fine for the vast majority of cases.

If you do not have the avast! licence or can't find it:  http://www.avast.com/en-us/resend-license-paid.php (http://www.avast.com/en-us/resend-license-paid.php)
