Avast causing timeout on login to TalkTalk email server.
« on: October 31, 2010, 08:27:08 PM »
Hi, please forgive a question from someone who may not know the correct terminology for the terms used:
For around 3 weeks, following a change in Talktalk's email login process which changed to a non-secure password login OR since an unknown Avast update,  any attempt to login the the mail pop3 server fails on all accounts with an error "...timed out waiting for a response from the receiving server....."
If I disable Avast complete, or the Mail shield then things work as they should. But this means that I no longer have protection on incoming mail.
Is there a setting that I can change to suit the connection to the email server?

Regards........Dave

This, is not completely true

1. your mail provider may have spam/and virus scanning on the mail server. many do, like hotmail/yahoo/gmail and many more.
2. here is an article that may relax you a bit
