Trojan detected ELF:BitCoinMiner-H
« on: October 03, 2014, 06:38:44 PM »
I just did a scan on my android phone, HTC one and it came up that it has detected a trojan, ELF:BitCoinMiner-H [Trj]. It is stored at /storage/emulated/0/Download/OTA_M7_UL_JB_50_Vodafone_UK_1.29.161.11-1.7_release_315813_signedoj2qp335qmm8qjso.zip. Is this likely to be a threat which I need to get removed or could it be a false positive? I don't want to delete the file if it ends up being something I need on my phone. Neither AVG or Kaspersky find anything when I scan using them.

Thanks

If it says it's a Bitcoin miner, and you were expecting a Bitcoin miner, then it is most likely a false positive. However, if you have no idea what Bitcoins are, then I suggest you get rid of the app, as it is using your phone's processing power to verify transaction records to Bitcoin's public ledger of past transactions.

If you don't get rid of it soon, you could end up with a very slow device that will halt ~30% sooner than it's expected life (Based on Dell laptop mining data in 2008)
