its about my avast update recently
« on: December 23, 2011, 05:58:43 PM »
hi, my avast i assume it tried to update, basically, i turn on pc as usual, then i leave it to run while i take a shower, after that i notice my pc was shut down, and when i restart it , looks like its shutdown due to something, since the option of going to safe mode it prompt. then i notice that avast is saying that update fail, package broken or something, so i try to update it via control panel, (not work) repair (not work, it gives me an error says please read update log or something) even then i go to avast main site and attempt to manually download the update to install, but that didnt work as well. It won't even start when i click the downloaded exe, it just pops up with the window thing that this programe might not install properly and this program is not responding.
what its concerning me at the moment is, i dont knw is avast is working properly or not, becase i can still scan files , but on the real-time shield tab, no matter how hard i click, it wont show me any detail when it used to.

also, the window action center thing, the white flag on the corner of the bottom right states that avast is not turned on, which avast itself states the opposite. i did a full scan and its clean as usual. i dont knw what to do since i fear that my shields are off or maybe malfuntion even though avast states that they are all on but that doesnt explains the shield tab is not showing anything as it use to be.

some log i copy out when i attempt to update avast via control panel

0x2000000B: Unable to verify prod-ais.vpx

Did you try to repair through Control Panel?
Did you use system restore recently?
If nothing works, I suggest an installation from scratch:

1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you've run it.
5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro. Or even upgrade your key from old versions.
7. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.

is this a critical error? because it sounds big and lazy i may sound but if the shield are funtion, then i could leave it as now ? although i will eventually do that but, i;ve been booting my pc several times today, so if possible i wouldnt want to do that again so soon, thanks for giving me advice tho, i will do that in the future as long as this is not a fatal problem. . .im hoping its not ,. , , right?

Sorry, but it is a fatal error. You're not being able to update your antivirus installation. This is vital.

Well... S*it happens. Difficult to say.
Did you use Windows System Restore recently?
The important thing is that you manage to correct it before anything more serious had happened.

Hi Morimori: Just a side note. You may want to "hide" your email address from the public. This will avoid Spammers from harvesting your address.

Go to Profile, then Account Related Settings and make sure the box is 'ticked' that says "Hide my email from the Public". ;)
