I am curious, what is the name of the software that is telling you to disable your antivirus? Seems very odd.

Welcome to the forum. :)Your antivirus program is your watchdog.
Why would someone ask you to poison your dog before you let them into your house ???
If a program can't install while it's being monitored for possible infections, do you really want it on your system ???
I personally have never turned off avast! in the 9+ years that it's been installed on my system.
( One exception was for beta testing of Windows 8 Developers Preview. )

Yes, I too would question what application it is that asks to disable your AV and what is so suspicious that it warrants disabling your AV.

I can't recall the last time I disabled avast to install another program, so I would want to know why they feel it necessary, when this is the very time that you need your protection enabled. So it would be very much the exception than the rule to have to disable your AV to install a program and there would have to be a damn good reason.
