avast 5.0 wont boot on startup

I have avast 5.0 that has worked fine for the past 2 months. now i get the red circle with the "x" everytime. tried to start it or open it manually but it wont respond. says all shields are disabled. running windows XP and little computer knowledge!

try repair and reboot

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

Try the option of delaying the loading of Avast! services until other Windows services have finished loading. It is found in the settings screen under troubleshooting. There are well known startup issues in XP and that probably is the reason why the option exists in Avast!
