Title: Avast tray icon not starting.
Post by: MoridinUK on May 16, 2011, 09:22:56 AM
Hi

I recently had a malware infection.  A trojan, Avast network shield block it from reaching its destination url but could not find and remove it.  I had to install various other scanners to find it and kill it.  I have since removed those items so I am back to 1 av.

Since then the tray icon for avast has not started up with the pc.  The main service has but not the avastui.exe.  This is only an annoyance but I'd like to try to fix it.

I'm running the latest version on a fully updated windows vista laptop.

Any advice would be great
thanks.

What were the other AV's you used and how did you remove them?

What were the other scanners or tools you installed and how did you remove them?

What was the name of the malware you had?

Have you had this problem since your malware issue?

Have you done an Avast Repair to see if this fixes your problem?

Hi Dom,

Have you tried a repair of avast?

Goto Control panel and select avast! antivirus. Click Uninstall/Change and select repair. Let the installer run unhindered. Reboot and see if it is fixed.

Thank you for pointing out the obvious.... some times one can not see the wood for the trees.  The repair option fixed the problem.

Thanks!
