Questions about Avast
« on: November 26, 2011, 03:04:33 AM »
1. Is Avast compatible with Comodo Firewall ?

2. Default mode by Avast Free is that it auto-updates every 320 minutes , but i changed it to 60 minutes , is there a update every 60 minute in Avast Free or not ?

Because i think you're not really protected if you have a antivirus that has not been updated for 5 hours , so much malware is made in 5 hours , you're screwed then.

So can somebody explain ?

Yes, no problem, as long you don't install Comodo's Anti-Virus.

2. Default mode by Avast Free is that it auto-updates every 320 minutes , but i changed it to 60 minutes , is there a update every 60 minute in Avast Free or not ?

Correction : Avast Free checks for updates every 240 minutes, and you can lower it to 120 minutes. Lower time intervals have no effect, it will stay at 120 minutes.

Where did you get that idea ? Normally Avast updates 2 times a day, and when necessary 3 or 4 times a day.

1. Yes.

2. The default is it checks for updates every 240 (not 320) minutes, that can be lowered to 120 minutes. Lowering it any further will just get ignored.

I certainly don't hold the same view that you aren't protected if you don't get an update every 5 hours. To start with it is an update check, that doesn't mean an update will be available for download. Generally there ate two updates a day, but that isn't a limit in the past I have had as many as 5 updates in a day, recently we had four.

That has stood the test of time for me for over seven and a half years of using avast.

To correct both of you, if you set it under 120 minutes, it uses the default of 240 minutes. ;)

In my experience, Avast Free updates twice in a 24 hour period. Sometimes three, but normally two.

Much as I hate to have to correct you, ignore means the default setting is still in force. It ignores the incorrect low value set and uses the default settings.

NP Dave, seems I misunderstood your post then. ;)
