Newest update and WinXP
« on: April 22, 2014, 05:17:32 AM »
I am using WinXP and have Avast Free Antivirus (I would pay for this, but I only want the antivirus), 2014.9.0.2008.  The last time I clicked on Update, the newer version crashed my computer and I spent three days going crazy trying to find out if I had a virus, or some other problem, or a problem with Avast. I finally found out from the forums that many XP users had trouble, and finally got this older version on my machine and working.
Does anyone with WinXP, SP3 have problems with this newer version.

Well I can say no issues with Premier Version on xpSP3.
Keep in mind, that doesn't speak to your OS configuration and other security software profile.

@wasudik

The only recent version that works on my laptop is still the 9.0.2008;
I posted about this problem on multiple places of the forum in the past months - basically I was ignored, so I'm not going to add any other details now - I just wanted to let you (a user)  know that also the new even-more-bloated build doesn't work on my system.
Just in case, I'm a power user and I've been using Avast since v4.5

Cheers

wasudik I'd suggest a clean install of the latest version 2014.9.2018, sometimes when upgrading from older versions there can be problems so a clean install maybe all that is needed.

Overall 2018 is a very trouble free build and I've put this build on a few XP systems over the last couple of days without any problems whatsoever, there is also an avast thread on Wilders Security Forums where many XP users are very happy with this build.
