I think the answer is no but thought I would ask anyway.  Should I just use the online virus scanners once in a while to be safe?

thanks

medstu,

You are correct....but....it applies only to other resident programs.
A manual antivirus scanner usually does not cause a problem with Avast, as long as you don't have them both running a scan at the same time.

I recommend Avast and the use of an online scanner as backup....such as Trend Micro.

good luck

Yes you can , and i have run both succesfully in the past. But ask yourself this...is there any point in having two avs taking up room on your pc and causing potential conflicts?.After using AVG for the best part of three years , then switching to avast , i came to the conclusion that AVG offers no benefit over avast and in fact avast (imo) detects much more anyway. Also with so many free online scans available from kaspersky panda trend etc where you can get a second opinion whats the point in having another installed?.

Like bassbag said, I see no advantage on use AVG as a second (backup, not resident) antivirus with avast. You can use on-line scanning or: BitDefender Free or AntiVir Free. Both of them, without the resident, do not bring any incompatibility with avast!  ;)

Forget Panda with any other antivirus installed...

AVG 6.0 (Free) is not compatible with avast when used in Windows 2k/XP.
