While testing another AV product my Chrome browser was infected by FBI moneypac. Only Chrome was affected. The support site for the other company stated their product protected my computer not my browsers. While my browser was infected their product did not detect any problem in a full scan.

The Avast! Web Shield certainly protects you browser.

It seems pretty pointless in having an AV that doesn't protect you when browsing. :o

Hi Rohugh,
I am new to posting on Avast Forum. I assumed I would receive an email notification when you replied to my post. Is there a way to set that up? I do not see a way to do that.

Click "Notify" at the top or bottom of the thread.

To answer your question:

Avast Web Shield checks all download traffic and the File Shield scans everything which is executed, meaning that when you run Chrome, the FS will scan Chrome and the WS will scan the traffic.

I honestly think that the homepage has been reverted and/or you have a bad add-on.

Check in Chrome settings and set the home page to default.

After that, run avast! browser cleanup in Avast>Tools>Browser Cleanup.

New members have a limit on what they can do,  I belive you need 20 posts before you have full privileges - spammers have a lot to answer for but sadly new members suffer at the start.

There is a "notification"  button under this post,  if you can see that click it and you will get an email.  :)

Hi Alikhan,
Remember I was testing another AV product when this problem occurred. I hope you mean restore Chrome browser settings to their original defaults.
All my add-ons or extensions have a five star rating in avast browser cleanup.
What I experienced was a locked Chrome browser with a "your browser has been locked by the FBI, pay this fine in 48 hours or they are coming to get me". I could not close Chrome by any standard method, I used CCleaner to force chrome to close.

Are you able to access the Chrome settings?

If not, you're most likely infected so...

I'd recommend making a thread on this board... Malware removal specialists are there to help.

Post a reply on that board and follow the instructions here :

Yes I can now access Chrome settings and I did reset to default. Chrome seems perfect, no problems. I uninstalled the other AV product and reinstalled Avast pro (I am paid up for another six months). I ran an Avast full scan and a MBAM pro full scan both were clear. I do not believe I currently have any infection, ONLY CHROME WAS AFFECTED all other software and programs worked and are working fine.

Ah, I though it affected all browsers.. with a process in memory.

Seems your good to go since Malwarebytes + Avast gave an all clear.
