webshield : https works/http does not

Please help.

Had avast running for 9 month with no issues.  Uninstalled norton systemworks2003 and rebooted and now..the only way I can use http on any browser if I pause/stop web shield provider. 

Aside from spybot..no other security applications are installed.  turned off windows firewall and no changes.  uninstalled/rebooted and reinstalled newest version of avast 4.8 and still nothing.  Went through registry and removed systemworks related entries..and rebooted...still no go

Anyone can help?  I hate to switch to someone else.. but need to get it to work.

WebShield can't scan https as it is encrypted. So, you can have it.
Remains of Norton are blocking the correct scanning of the http.
Try to remove them as Pondus said.

ran the norton utility twice.  rebooted..still same thing.  running xp32bit sp3.btw.

I don't use SpyBot, but i now there have been som trouble with the SpyBot Tea Timer, maybe someone no this?

I had this same problem start today out of nowhere.  If I disable web shield I can browse as usual but can't browse with it on. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but there's no change, all avast updates are installed.

Just before this started I was disconnected suddenly while online. I had to reset my modem and after that I couldn't browse with webshield on. Yesterday I installed XP SP3 but everything was working fine until today.

This same problem started with me, also. My computer inexplicably shut itself off. It rebooted normally - and, after that, I could never get a connection to any "http" site; although "https" sites worked normally.

When I disable "Web Shield", everything works fine.

Why is Avast! blocking http sites all of a sudden? It even blocks www.google.com.
