How to close Avast? It's impossible!
« on: November 18, 2004, 06:35:18 PM »
Hallo, i use avast in windows XP. I can not close the program, i tried in all ways but it seems to be impossible to completely close the program. I successed only in stopping the scan but the program remains opened. Why? Where is the option to completely shut down the program?  ???

Thanks.

Why you want to completely stop Avast? That just doesn't make sense.

I want to play a game (Half-Life 2) and I need my RAM to be completely free for it.

Avast protects your computer while your using it, if a virus is opened or is doing something to your computer avast should pick it up without you having to scan.

But if you would like to stop this click the "A" ball in your taskbar (next to your system clock) and select "stop on access protection", this will effectivly leave it "dormant" and will wait in the taskbar (not in use or using any memory) as an quick/easy way to activate it again.

You could always click the "A" ball in your taskbar once and disable certain providers (interent mail for example) to free some RAM.

Thanks  ;)

Shutting down Avast will not free up much ram and won't lead to a smoother game.

Putting in more physical ram and/or getting a better video card is the solution for you.

Anyway, the best way to shut it down is go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, and stop the "Avast antivirus" service".

The same can be done from the command line by executing the following command:

net stop "avast! Antivirus"

Ok, thanks to all... I'm going to increase my RAM next week, that's better I think ;)
