On around 10/30/2012, I noticed a new program version was available so I let Avast do what it needed to do as it always did great. On reboot, Avast would crash and no 32-bit programs would start-up. I am running XP64 and noticed this 32-bit "problem" because I was able to run the 64-bit version of IE just fine (and I downloaded the full installer file). The IE 32-bit version could be seen as a process but it wouldn't appear on the desktop. Nor would anything else like MS Word, Outlook, WinTV, etc. Also, I could not remove Avast via Add/Remove Programs. I had to boot into safe mode, remove Avast, and then reboot into regular mode. Without Avast on the system, everything worked just fine. So, I reinstalled using the full installer file hoping that my first program update/install was just corrupted somehow but on restart, the same problems. If Avast no longer supports XP64, I can understand that. But, with others saying they are having problems too, I'm suspicious. Thanks in advance for any suggestions (other than move to Vista64, Win7-64, etc).
