Does it solve the WebRep + Gmail + FF4 bug that cause an additional "sign" after the outcoming mails?
I am not at home :'( :'( :'(
Greetz, Red.
Did you resolve the problem with Windows Media Player that becomes red ? Because it comes from AVAST 6, when I uninstalled AVAST 6, Windows Media Player went to its normal colour.
Downloaded, installed. I'll try It tommorow...The same :)

@avragorn: red? could you please post a screenshot? thx
Updated from 6.0.1044 to 6.0.1086 via AvastUI. Ran a Quick Scan. Everything seems fine. WebRep now doesn't have to be refreshed to show ratings on a Google search results page. On 6.0.1044, I often had to hit reload in Firefox.
Congrats to Avast on update.
You do not indicate if you are running XP, Vista or Windows 7.
And I don't know if it is possible, but if you could optimize AVAST to make Youtube work better ... As I wrote, since a few days, since I have KASPERSKY (the trial version) Youtube works much better, the video buffering goes faster and the videos don't stop during they are playing. But since I can watch videos on youtube (since november 2008) I had problems when playing videos on Youtube, the videos often stopped for buffering .... and I had AVAST since 2007. So I think there is something in AVAST that makes youtube (and dailymotion) slow.
And it would be great to resolve the problem with Windows Media Player becoming red :) If you read the threads the users post here, many users have the problem and think that the AVAST staff doesn't work on it :(

To be updated on 6.0.1086 avast cent from GUI? Or can only be to download the installer package to start 6.0.1086 and then choose the upgrade? It would be important in order to improve the ZoneAlarm always treasure because it freezes the whole system sb.bin
The Windows Media Player folder in Program Files should contain all of the files for WMP11. If it doesn't, that's probably why you're having problems.Sorry again, I have windows XP home SP3 ... and Windows Media Player 11, with the normal skin, I never changed it (I don't find the folder where it has been downloaded !!! - the folder "windows media player" has only an older version of WMP from 2004 ???I am sorry ... If you run the 6.0.10XX, you can update via GUI.
6.0.1000 and smaller, you have to install via downloaded installer file or wait until release.
There's a little thing in the Free version, I wanted to post that on the last pre, but I somehow forgot.
The "Avast News Service" on the bottom of Summary / current Status page seems to be somewhat outdated. It is still announcing WebRep for the upcoming version 6... ;D

Please help me to update from 6.0.1086 to 6.0.1000 via GUI? I go to him in vain to update the program nothing happens, it says the latest is installed. You can't update from 6.0.1000 from the GUI. 6.0.1000 is a release version and only allows you to upgrade to another release version. 6.0.1086 is a pre-release version, or in other words, a beta. 6.0.1000 is the latest release version available. To get 6.0.1086, you will have to download the installer and then just run it over the top of 6.0.1000. That should work fine.

Custom install should have worked for you, then it lets you confirm what you are installing prior to the install. If not, it may be a bug.

Hey PK!
Red Media Player anyone?
Theres a glitch in the german WebRep rating pop-up.
Seems the dedicated area is too small, so something is either cut off at the top or at the bottom (the contents moves up and down in the window when you run the mouse vertically over the pop up).
This is due to the translation of the last point "WAREZ / ILLEGALE INHALTE" - change it to "WAREZ / ILLEGALES" pls. and all's well. ;D

Of course I used the custom install, or else how would I select not to install the P2P shield? ;) Will try again on my VM and see if it is reproducible.
I thought context menu text will change to "avast! Scan" or "Scan with avast!". Hope in the new version...?

yeah okay Asyn, I use Vlc too, but if someone prefers to use WMP, which btw has been the case for me a long time until I switched, that's his damned right. Using another program to get rid of an issue with the one you use is no solution.
I hope that the VPS updates will be available for a long time for AVAST 5, most of the programs stop the updates for the previous versions when they launch a new version.
[OT] Btw, I think VLC is the best player out there atm, imo.

They will, as 5.x and 6.x use the same database.

This is in the "Basic" page of the settings
The Community features are the like button and the twitter button in alerts. These are changable in the "Community" page of the settings.
Yes, that's pretty nice and what's more some kind of splash screen would be really nice after you logged in Windows. Just like NOD does, for example. :)

you already got an avast icon in front of the entry in the context menu, that's not enough ??? ::)

No, it won't.
If you really need it, there's the special INI file setting.
I couldn't add a new comment this topic. I'm not sure, but might be this is a closed topic. I don't know.

Updated via GUI just fine. No apparent overload Avast servers that are handling the GUI update :)
----------------
Regarding Avast 6.x, WMP11 XP color problem.
With all due respect to those still using XP, franking it is an outdated operating system regardless of which SP version you are on.
In fact when you have the SP3 release installed you have so many fixes from the original release of XP that by laws of programing you are almost guaranteed to run into problems especially when using the the latest releases of Security software.
Now some may have no problems and that is great luck. Good for them
My recommendation to all Windows OS users except for application testers is to upgrade to W7 SP1.
Windows does have a WMP12 but it will not run on XP, unless there is a hacked version of WMP12 out there that will.
The majority of computer users will save themselves a lot of computer related grief by installing W7 SP1.
The added cost will more than pay for itself in the time and headaches saved by continuing to use XP whose kernal is now about a decade old.
I've tried CIS and MS Security Essentials with Win7 Firewall enabledNot recommended.
working fine here only thing I can never see is web rep in ie9IE9 what browser you use ?if it were 64 bit but may not work on 32 bit works fine.

Does anybody know if there is a specific shield responsible?
Or is it red because it's auto-sandboxed? (silly idea, but who knows...)
Maybe disable all shields and then turn on one by one, starting and stopping WMP each time another shield is up and check?
only reason I suggested to try deactivating the script shield is because it does interfere with WMP activity... but okay so does the file shield ;D ... but the fs scans everything, while the script shield... okay, you got the idea.
edit: yeah, could be the sandbox frame... appearing particularly "thick"... did the OP check sandboxed processes?

My computer is old, my internal hard drive is not big, I can't put any versions after XP. And I don't want to remove all the Music, pictures, files I have on it.
So if the AVAST staff can't resolve the windows XP / Windows Media Player 11 issues with AVAST 6, I will keep AVAST 5.1.889 until the VPS updates will be not available anymore for AVAST 5, then I will change the antivirus. Most of the antiviruses are Windows XP friendly. That will be not a disaster for me !

You cannot use CIS and Windows Firewall. Did you COMPLETELY uninstall CIS?
I've tried CIS and MS Security Essentials with Win7 Firewall enabledNot recommended.
Which was your previous antivirus, before avast?
Did you uninstall MSE to install avast? Both will conflict, sooner or later.
Avast + Win7 Firewall = No HTTPThis is completely "impossible" by itself.

You know, there are tons of alternative media players better than the WMP bloatware. ::) Such as MPC, MPC-HC, VLC and many others.
I know but I have almost 90-100 gb of Music in my WMP library. I don't want to waste 1 or 2 weeks to move everything to another Media Player.

Updated from Pro to AIS to check out that version. Still need to do a complete uninstall and reconfiguration from scratch. Shouldn't be necessary. About time for Avast! to invest in 1) a smarter installer, so versions can be installed over each other when someone does an upgrade. (or even downgrade). 2) A way to save and restore a configuration, even if separate for each version.
You can upgrade from Pro to AIS: just add the new license key file.
When you try to upgrade from Pro to AIS in 1098, there is no way to do it. You have two choices from the installer if you already have Pro installed-Add more Pro features or uninstall. The firewall is not listed as an option. I had Pro installed with an AIS license to start. Tried it twice with same result.
There's a little thing in the Free version, I wanted to post that on the last pre, but I somehow forgot.
The "Avast News Service" on the bottom of Summary / current Status page seems to be somewhat outdated. It is still announcing WebRep for the upcoming version 6... ;D
Can't you feed it with some other news that are really new?
And yes: I know it's not a bug in the program. But if you have something like a "news-feed" it should at least not show something that isn't new anymore - in this case it's even history. 8)
Avast + Win7 Firewall = No HTTPThis is completely "impossible" by itself.
avast free is an antivirus only and works perfectly with any Windows firewall.
In these cases, the problems is always remains of older antivirus or firewall installed and bad uninstalled.
You need to "clean" your system from other antivirus and firewalls.
I've been using XP since 2005 and have NEVER seen a blue screen.
As a past user of CIS, I know that it installs parts of the suite that are not used by the installation options you choose. If you choose just the Firewall, you still get all the elements of the AV but they are not activated. If you choose just the AV, the opposite occurs. I would suggest using the CIS removal tool and maybe even manually searching through your registry and deleting all mentions of Comodo. Uninstalling Comodo very often leaves things behind that may cause problems. There also is a removal tool available for MSE which integrates itself very deeply into the system.Avast + Win7 Firewall = No HTTPThis is completely "impossible" by itself.

I politely disagree. I have installed all three anti virus programs using the default Win7 Firewall enabled and only Avast stops me from accessing web sites! I can uninstall Avast, reboot and install CIS AV or MSE and be able to browse the web. I uninstall either of those, reboot and reinstall Avast and web browsing is blocked. It's the Web Shield part of Avast that is the problem, I turn that off and all is OK, turn it back on and it blocks web browsing again.
I don't post these reports for fun, I'm trying to find out why Avast has suddenly developed this problem for me and by showing other AV products do not cause this problem, it all points to something incompatible with Avast, but I can't find out what. To see if it's my existing setup (Cable Modem with integrated router) I'm going to install my ADSL modem/router and try via ADSL and see if that causes the same problem, then I can at least be sure it's not my Cable/ADSL gear!!
I know exactly what I'm saying and wouldn't say it if it wasn't true. Yes, I was using 98SE until 2005 and did have a few blue screens in 6 years of using it. There have been none with XP and that is a fact.I've been using XP since 2005 and have NEVER seen a blue screen.

Only new thing I have noticed about the firewall so far is the announcement of the acquisition of Opera and Avast! by Microsoft. ;D
LOL I do everything with my machines. I'm on it for 12 hours a day very frequently. I play games, download with P2P clients, use messenger programs, occasionally visit social sites, edit and convert videos and pictures, and keep everything up to date, just about everything that can be done. I have never had a problem with a driver update either except for rolling back to the older one a few times for performance reasons. I've never had a problem with ANY Windows update either dating back to 1999. I guess I'm just lucky that way. ;D XP has been rock solid for me.I know exactly what I'm saying and wouldn't say it if it wasn't true. don't know what you're doing with computers, if you're doing anything at all ::) ... ie never update drivers, leave the system as idle as possible... then may be yes ... MS themselves wouldn't use your statement for an ad ;D

Avast didn't do so well in the FP area in the latest AV Comparatives report. Although they did use 5.1.
Microsoft seems to have regurgitated them back to their original owners again in my system too, although Opera took several minutes to come back. Some kind of a refresh bug. But signing is important enough to get it fixed ASAP. Or maybe Microsoft is just "sampling" lots of software to see if they want to buy. ???

1. Close IE9 x64
2. In the Avast GUI in "Additional Protection" go to WebRep and install it for IE9.
3. Open IE x64
4. Go to "Safety"---"Tracking Protection"---"Toolbars and Extension"---Find "Avast WebRep"---If it says "Unenabled" Highlight it----Go to the lower right of the popup and click on "Enable"
5. Closed IE9 x64
6. Reopen it
7. Open a website and Webrep should show.

It looks like you have already asked this of Rednose in the Dutch forum, so I would wait for his reply or PM him. Thank you.

There is no real support for IE 9 64 bit anyways from tons of companies and sites.
Just to cross link some information about the beta.
Seems the toolbar has problems on Office 2010.

#Pause (that mean's no more response from me to your comments on this topic at this time)
Read up on it please before you comment. Thanks.
The OS win 7 is 64 bitIE9 64bit and IE9 32 bit work just fine on my Windows 7 system.
the browser I am using on it is is IE9 32 bit
"IE9 what browser you use ?if it were 64 bit but may not work on 32 bit works fine" was not my typed statement but a reply by a poster to me. ??? ;D
Try reading page 8 TEO57's reply to me
"avast! is not intentionally "screwing" with Media Player"
I bet. You must be insane to "intentionally screw" stuff.
"There's probably some conflict/bug somewhere"
I bet again. It is a progress, so far I have been reading it was my fault. :)
"but we were unable to simulate it on our machines so far, so it's kinda hard to do anything about it at the moment"
Well this is a bit worrying, don't you think?
Fortunately we aren't speaking of a critical issue...
