My computer is only a year old. I cannot deal with this. I do not know how to solve the problem of the avast not updating. I am not techy

i also did a repair in the add/remove programs and nothing
I also had that problem and fixed it by doing a clean install.
Download the avast! removal tool. (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility)
Download avast!7 free (http://www.avast.com/download-thank-you.php?src=http%3A%2F%2Ffiles.avast.com%2Fiavs5x%2Fsetup_av_free.exe&product=FA-AVAST&page=download-software&locale=en-ww&avast=0)
Go to Programs and Features and uninstall avast!
Reboot into Safe Mode
Run the removal tool.
Reboot
Install avast!7
Let us know if you're among the living after this is done. ;D

@drhayden1,
When you finish with aswclear, look into "C:/windows/system32/drivers/". If there are any "asw*" drivers from avast / alwil (aswrdr2.sys for example), then delete them too.
Also manually search for any folders with "alwil*" or "avast*" as part of their names ("Alwil Software" or "Avast Software" or "avast5" for example). Delete them too.
All that while in Windows Safe Mode. Then reboot into Normal Mode and install Avast, and reboot again.
-
I still could not update today. Does anyone know why this is occurring. Please advise me what I can do.

Did you try the fix from Reply #7...??
-
same old bs
did everything again and still the mail shield will not work....everything else is running
the turn on or fix now will not respond when i click on it
i have the internet security version not the free one
where can i download internet security 6 at or gonna have to use any service until 7 is fixed
strange in the mail shield section there is not a stop or start to click on.....all the others have it
and it says please run the avast service first to activate the shield.....what does that mean or what to do????
-
Well in this same old bs, are you getting any errors ?
Crucially are you uninstalling the avast you have installed from add remove programs first; running the aswclear.exe from safe mode, first for avast6 and then avast7 before rebooting into normal mode; install the latest avast version ?
-
hi david......it is working now.....just did a simple reboot and everything is running like it never happened
thanks for whatever happened!
no i did the safe mode first with the aswclear and then reinstall from avast website......
and the update is also working.......
-
No problem, so long as you have it working.

This is an avast auto-update check in progress (the avast.setup process controls updates) and one of the download servers
Yes, this has happened before, avast has hundreds of update servers and is constantly adding them and they are on occasion reused IP addresses and it is possible that previously this IP was blocked by the network shield.
I have reported it for investigation and correction.
