In my honest opinion it was not. I think site just needs updating.

OR maybe since we have excellent install tutorials and we are smarter then the average bears we do not need a fancy download page and we do not need to be told to click "Next", "Next", "Next", "Next", "Finish", "Reboot Now" ;D.

Why would they drop the Linux support?

Both .deb and .rpm file are still available if You want them.

I don't understand why would You think that? There was no "We are dropping Linux" announcement.

Regards.

Hi Tech, and AndrzejL.

I know you get edgy Tech about the Alwil Company never giving much feedback, I hope you don't mind me saying so. We all do a bit.  ;)

It's pretty obvious the Avast! for Linux Home editition isn't the "Flagship" of the Company, to say the least.  ;D

Plus with 'Avast! 8' out in the market it takes the spotlight.

*I looked up an old Bookmark for Avast/Linux-Home Ed. and I get to the Windows version 8 of Avast!, so yeah we certainly aren't being supported by Alwil. However just a simple matter of changing the site,...

However Avast! for Linux is still happening, as AndrzejL has kindly pointed out.

I'd especially like to welcome  AndrzejL to this Forum, he's helped me out when it mattered on occassion with my transition to PCLinuxOS, even though he's moved on to another flavour of Linux, he's always happy to help genuine Linux users.

Don't you worry folks; contrary to rumor, although Avast! for Linux may seem unsupported, as long as we keep using it I believe Alwill will keep providing it.

I wouldn't hold my breath for an "update", but sheesh stranger things have happened, and at least it IS available: Please see AndrzejL's post for active links. .  ;)

We are preparing new version. I heard something about 1 week, but don't be disappointed it it take more time ;-).

Newcomers please be aware Avast! for Linux is alive and well, just post your problems and someone will help you out !  :)

When you run it for the first time it offers a window with a link (to the same registration page of the PC free version). Well, at least it was this way until version 7 (for Windows).

Maybe Tech would like to rename this Thread with emphasis, that in fact:

Milos:

The feeling to users that Avast! is no longer 'Available', may be put to rest, and put into a realistic perspective!
1.) Avast! for Linux IS AVAILABLE.
2.) Avast! for Linux is under Development.

Be great if the Download page for Avast! for Linux could be fixed on the site too. There is definitely a demand for this product !

Newbie to this forum. However, I have been using Ubuntu since 2005 or thereabouts. I do not know when I started using avast for debian,  but I know it was well before this danged unity interface. Ever since the unity interface was rolled out, Avast has not worked for me. At first it was easy to find on the Awil web site. But as the above discussion indicates... it is difficult to find.
I downloaded the avast4workstation 64 bit amd debian version. Double clicked on it and the Installer program opened. I clicked install and a dialog popped up saying the file was not up to debian installer standards. Something about an indicator for the length of the file. (Should have written it down). I overroad it and installed it.
When I ran it, I immediatly updated the virus definitions. That was successful (?) but as soon as I tried to run a scan, I got a file error, which now pops up whenever I start the program. Halts.... crashes.
I did a thorough uninstall / reinstall. SOS.  I give up
I will run Clam AV... even though the statistics say that it is among the worst.
Any comments are welcome (except flaming  ;-)  )

Very interesting.

Will there be a beta to test? I'll be replacing a linux OS in a few weeks, so now would be a good time to 'play'.

The ONLY things that I am missing in the current client are:

- incremental upgrades
- setting that says "Do not bother me with the Virus is found just show it to me in the final report" so I don't have to sit and wait for first virus to show up (or place a virus in the first folder to be scanned) just so I can check the "Do this from now on" and click "Continue".

What I certainly do not miss is a fancy shiny bling-bling gui like the one that Windows users are presented with (seen the beta 8 video...) as I find it scary, overcomplicated, distracting and frankly annoying. The simple gui that we have now is just perfect.

I would not mind a "Change theme / Add skin" feature for those that want to make it look "Oh so puuuuurty..." but I would really rather not see Avast going shiny on Linux by default especially that in current state I can use it on a Pentium 2 machine... and I would hate to loose this.

Just my €0.02... Now I am broke ;).

Regards.

Andrzej

I've never had a Virus.  :-[  Now that I use exotic flavoures of Linux I feel I never will.  :-\  Dang,...

I like Mageia guy's, probably as it has the KDE desktop, but it's pretty cool I believe, so far.

Another thing that I miss in Linux version is that I cannot see what files were infected during the scan. The ~/.avast/report.txt file is being written after the scan has finished - I would like to see this file being populated with the info about viruses found while the scanner is working so I can continue to scan AND in the same time I can deal with the already found viruses by hand...

Cheers.

antivirus avast! for Linux/Unix Servers:

avast! for Linux/Unix Servers is an antivirus solution for the more and more popular Linux and BSD environments. Considering its robust design and mail scanning support, it is primarily intended for Linux (or BSD) based servers and workstations. Thanks to its flexible deamon architecture, avast! for Linux can be used for both filesystem and network traffic scanning, such as real-time monitoring of mail (SMTP).

avast! 4 Linux Server (uses license.dat for activation from B2B):
avast4server - TAR.GZ 3.2.1 (207 KB)                       http://files.avast.com/files/linux/i586-pc-linux-gnu/avast4server-3.2.1-i586.tar.gz
avast4server - DEB 3.2.1 (207 KB)                            http://files.avast.com/files/linux/i586-pc-linux-gnu/avast4server-3.2.1-i586.deb
avast4server - RPM 3.2.1 (210 KB)                            http://files.avast.com/files/linux/i586-pc-linux-gnu/avast4server-3.2.1-1.i586.rpm

The avast! for Linux Workstation product has been dropped!    Use the server version above for loading onto workstations.

Actually, that's not true.
I was not aware of these versions of Avast! for Linux for which you've posted links, as being free.

Some explanation would be great thanks.  ;)
To avoid needless confusion, and overwhelming questions please explain to those who may not be that savvy, ...I take it these are pay to use Lisences ?

Presently I'm aware of availabilty of the good ol' free version:
avast! Linux Edition (RPM): http://files.avast.com/files/linux/avast4workstation-1.3.0-1.i586.rpm
avast! Linux Edition (DEB): http://files.avast.com/files/linux/avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb
avast! Linux Edition (TAR GZ): http://files.avast.com/files/linux/avast4workstation-1.3.0.tar.gz

Introducing avast! for Linux Workstations BETA    (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=10647.msg90799#msg90799)
j/k folks, ... 28 January 2005 ;D   :D

Here's a live link, of sorts, which should stay put:
http://linux.softpedia.com/progDownload/avast-Linux-Home-Edition-Download-43586.html

The 2005 version is easily available obviously.

It does seem apparent if we want work on a new Avast4linuxworkstations posting our feeling here on the Forum aren't going to do anything.

If we are seriously committed to making our voices heard maybe making some comments as a joint Linux 4 Avast group at:
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/avast
Twitter: https://twitter.com/avast_antivirus

Or directly contacting the Moderators of this Linux Forum, (I doubt that would help much);
Support: https://support.avast.com/
the Avast Blog, Google +, or even Youtube would reap some results in getting a new version underway, and finished.

I'm trying to use my imagination as posting here is next to useless obviously.

Have a look here:
https://twitter.com/avast4_Linux  -- and post along with me if you'd like.

The more the merrier, plus I suppose Facebook is a good spot to post also.

All the best,

Abraxas.

I tried, but was sent back to this Forum to ask questions.
I feel I've actuated just about every angle I can think of. It is of interest that no one really has offered support, from the USERs or thought outside of the box, or done anything positive.

As we were told months ago:

We are preparing new version. I heard something about 1 week, but don't be disappointed it it take more time ;-).
