Avast 4.8 Home and Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
« on: November 10, 2009, 04:37:31 PM »
Hi.
I installed Avast 4.8 Home edition on my daughter's laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium) and everything looks good, at least so far.
Also I installed Avast 4.8 Home edition on my PC (Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit) and I don't see "I" icon (for VRDB).
I tried to "repair" installation of Avast, it didn't help. Then I uninstalled and installed Avast again.
The pop-up balloon about VRDB appears, and as soon I clicked on it, "I" icon dissapears. There are also no submenu in pop-up menu from "a" icon.

Why there are different behaviour on those two platforms, and what could be wrong with my installation?

Will anyone (preferably - from tech-support) give any explanation?

Well... more few days and VRDB will be dropped completely in version 5 of avast. It's an obsolete technology.
I won't worry about it.
But, if I can guess, maybe the icons are merged. Do you have a VRDB menu on the 'a' blue icon?

No, that's the point, I didn't merge them, and there are no VRDB submenu in pop-up menu from the "a" icon.
But with upgrading to version 5 it will not be relevant anymore.
However, it shows that at least version 4.8 not fully compatible with Windows 7.

@Nehrist

avast! V4.8 is compatable with Windows 7 as I used it untill I decided to try V5 that is running very well.

Read about avast! when they went to Microsoft campus in Redmond, WA

After updating Avast the issue has been resolved.
