since a week I have a very high bandwith. almost 600% more as normal. today someone told my to install netlimiter to see what program gets it so high
strange enough it looks like it is avast, it is uploading like crazy
I use avast since over 1 year and never had problems untill now
anyone who knows why this happens

avast acts (by design) as a local proxy.
-
ok, but why is this only since last week, when I use avast for over a year
can this be disabled ?

Not sure what you mean...?

my bandwith has always been around 700MB a day, and now it is 3400MB
so today I find out that avast is uploading heavy, and that since june10th
so why is this happening now.

1. I have a firewall
2. dont know what you mean by OS
1. Which one..?
2. Operating System.

windows firewall
windows xp sp3

Avast is not the cause of this.
Can you give me your applied internet speed?
Download and upload?
I have problems with netlimiter pro. I dont trust that software.
You can test your connection using speedtest.net
Disable avast and test speedtest clicking the server location of your applied internet connection.
If the result of speedtest.net is not really the speed result of the applied connections of you paid then their is a problem with your internet subscriber.
-
windows firewall
windows xp sp3
XP FW is quite weak, I suggest to use another one.
-
speed is normal
upload 1.44 mbs
download 28 mbs
someone on another forum told me that it could be virus hiding in avast, so it can't be noticed when scanning
strange thing is, when I disable avast, my bandwith is not rising

Did you try using speedtest.net website?
Is that the result?
If so..
Then try again enabling avast and use speedtest.net
See if the upload and download is the same.
-
I used speedtest.net
It stays the same

The problem is in Netlimiter which wrong result.
Actually in my experience using Netlimiter i have also plenty of wrong result upload and downloads.
Dont trust that software result.
Solved. ;D
-
it is not solved, since my bandwith is still growing fast, and right now the only problem I see is avast.
-
Did you try calling your internet subscriber?
Also try remove netlimiter.
-
Which version of avast are you using..??
Where did you download it..??
You can test your avastSvc.exe at VT. (virustotal.com)
Also consider Genesis' last reply.
-
avast free 6
downloaded it from the net
tried to test avastsvc but I can't find to test it
when I search for it I got it, but I can't get it on virustotal
-
Wait is this connection stand alone?
-
think so
just found out that when I close my browser "msn-explorer", avast isn't uploading anymore
could it be that the problem is in msn-explorer

If data is uploaded there, yes.

"msn explorer" combines a browser with "Live" features (hotmail, live messanger...). This means that there "must" be some bandwith constantly used, even if you are not directly using it (you are not currently chatting, but the system needs to be active anyway).
Avast "may" be checking the data being transferred, but Avast itself is not generating the transfer.
BTW, to test your bandwith with speedtest.net, you should "exit" any "live" service, any chat method, any social communications, any browser, any FTP, any "toolbar"... The only active connection should be one simple plain web browser window with the speedtest.net site on one only tab. Please note that "exit" is not the same as "minimize" nor "close".

think I found it. I deleted avast and now all upload is going on msn-explorer. so something or someone is gone into msn-explorer. I deleted the program and installed it again, but the upload keep going on
so I may have to stop using msn-explorer
so a big sorry to avast for thinking that the problem was in avast
-
Does the msn explorer with all that 'live stuff' include an online backup/sync?

I don't think this person is complaining about speed. They are complaining that something is using all bandwidth. It looks like avast to them. Since avast is the local proxy, then there might be a malware infection using all that bandwidth.
-
that is right, it is not the speed but the banduse
well, I found out that it is comming from msn-explorer, I see all other ip's who are downloading
and because avast is checking all traffic I first tought it was avast, but it was avast tracking all the traffic from other people who somehow are using my bandwith with msn-explorer.
just don't know how thay are doing it, so I can't stop it. only thing I can do is not open msn-explorer, and the traffic stops
