Year, would be nice.
But i worked so well for last months (maybe years). Well, lets hope you are right.
Do you have *.exe-Files on an ext2/3-partition?
I used one ext2-partition as a game-partition, 'cause it is easier to play a short time under linux with wine :). Otherwise, i never had found this "bug" *g*.

The same happens on my machine, the system BSODs when I try to execute a Windows file stored on an EXT2 partition.

Any news from the developers of Avast regarding this bug? It's quite annoying.

Any Idea to stop Avast (and not to uninstall it)?
I stopped all avast-services, but still get the BSOD when i execut an *.exe-File from an ext2-Partition.

I too am having this problem, as of today. Also using the IFS ext2 drivers. I'm not executing anything from my ext2 drive though. It happens without fail within a couple minutes of booting, even with the avast on access scanner stopped. Any news on a fix? I'll have to stop using Avast until this is corrected. :(

So, did you apply the patch posted to the other thread?

Hi all.

O/S: WINDOWS XP Pro SP3 32 bit

To solve the BSOD caused by aswSP.sys

01) Install latest version of avast!. (Do NOT restart if it asks to)
02) Open avast! User Interface.
03) Go to Settings.
04) Go to Troubleshooting.
05) Un-Tick Option "Enable avast! self-defence module"
06) Confirm.
07) Update avast! to newest version. (Optional if you are already to latest version)
08) Restart PC. Upon restart, enter Safe Mode.
09) Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers
10) Find aswSP.sys. Rename it to aswSP.sysbck. Save it.
11) Restart PC.
12) Enjoy !
13) avast! works fine as it does not need to load aswSP.sys since we have already disabled that option.

You are replying to a topic that is almost three years old, so the avast program version then would have been avast 4.8 or there about. So would be totally unrelated to the current avast 6.0.x.

I have no problems with the current version and XP Pro SP3.

Avast also does integrity checking so after an update you may find that this hack fails. Not to mention the real way to deal with this is to report it in the forums, upload the dump file to avast for analysis. This way if the problems is attributable to avast it can be resolved to the benefit of all avast users.

Three years - ok, but problem is back.
Yesterday, (02 July, 2011) about 22:15 (local time, CEST) I have closed computer.
Today morning restart was very long and has been ended with blue screen with aswSP.sys problem.

Finally - very big system crash - Windows (XP SP3)logo and hard restart only.
I have RAID and several single hard drives in my computer.
After more than hour of the work I have discovered that currently system may works with RAID and CDROM only.
Connecting another hard drive causes hard reboot several seconds after Windows logo appears.

Last update of my Avast shows date 2011 July 02, 22:47, so I think that was fetched immediatelly after today's morning reboot, just before crash.
I have checked another hard drives NOT previously installed in this computer (maybe trojan or something) - nothing, the same effects with additional drives...

Date of the sign of the aswSP.sys shows 10 may 2011 13:03:43.
Version: 6.0.1125.0

What to do?
Regards
Mariusz

That is why your problem should be addressed in a new topic as it clearly isn't related to the 'old' program version. Click on this link, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0 and click the New topic button at the top of the page. Create your own new topic (copy and paste your info) and we can try to help you there.

We don't want to be breathing life in to this very old topic.
Sorry,
sometimes peoples recommends to continue topic with similar subject what looks alike bringing to live old topics.

But in this case - I have to apologise, because my first, nervous opinion and diagnosis wasn't good.

!!!!!!!!  AVAST IS OK.  !!!!!!!!!!!

What has happened?
One of non-RAID disks was going to dead yesterday. Drive has stopped and started accidentially during work. It wasn't easy to hear becuause of general big machine noises.
This has happened during aswSP.sys work and therefore my first diagnosis.

Finally, a bit later - one of RAID disks has been logically destroyed, but after indetifying damaged hard disk and after disconnecting them, I have rebuild RAID and everything is ok.

Mariusz

Not your problem, as was the poster in front of my response deb8, whom my comment was directed. That post and my response would bring the topic up to the top of the chronological list, making it appear higher up the list. Not to mention looking current.

Glad that you now have the Raid issue resolved and we can let this topic go back to sleep ;D
