Cloud Service Participation
« on: July 16, 2012, 07:28:23 AM »
Would I still get the benefits of the Reputation services if I don't participate in it (like no agreeing to submitting files information).

I know sharing is caring. But I don't care.

Not really - there's only one touch at the reputation servers; it submits the identification of the particular file and gets the corresponding data in reply.
So it's not possible to separate those two.

Do you mean the participating option is required for some cloud function? If so I think a little info & recommended word should be there with the option.

I too had disabled it thinking it is not required for cloud protection as mostly this is the option to only submit suspicious files & not limit protection.

Eg.: How should the server answer, if he doesn't know the question..!! ;)

The program help file is reasonably clear what the Cloud Services can deliver and what you would lose by disabling it.

Personally before changing/disabling a function/feature I would find out what it does/delivers.

I think first we should make clear what option exactly we are talking about...

Well, the OP was talking about FileRep, not 100% sure about naren17, though... ;)

Sorry, I misunderstood the 1st post.

I am talking about the option "Participate in Avast Community", is it required to join for cloud protection, I think no, right?

The "Participate in Avast Community" is different to the other Cloud Services, so I don't believe that would be effected if you disabled the cloud services, but I believe you would be losing a valuable feature.

1. NP naren.
2. No, but it would help all, if you would paticipate anyway.

I think I'll start participating then.
The time between submitting the file and receiving information about it won't cause a noticeable delay right?
