Running Ad Aware with Avast IS
« on: February 06, 2011, 03:53:43 AM »
Hello,

I had previously read on the forums that it's better not to run Ad Aware in combination with Avast since they both have anti-virus engines and can interfere with each other.

I am only running Ad Aware manually now and then and never at the same time as Avast.  Is this still a potential problem?

Thanks!

Windows 7 64 bit, 6GB ram, Avast IS, firefox with adblock

Hey and warm welcome

It can cause problem but not necessary ( I won't go into details why). Just uninstall Adware so that you prevent damage from happening :)

Regards,

Ok, thanks for the advice.  :)

Should I install Malwarebytes instead?

Malwarebytes is the best program to run with avast, no conflict's with the free or pro MBAM.

Great!  Thanks for the fast response.  :)

Which would you recommend running with Avast IS:  The free version or full version of MBAM?

If you dont mind paying for the life time license of $25 pro is the way to go, you get auto update and scanning plus the website blocking in the pro version.
If you only want the free you just have to update it manually before you scan.

Hi Zalynia, and welcome to the forum! You can download MBAM from http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/  Another good download is Super Anti- Spyware  http://filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/  If you are lookin for a good cleaner I recommend CCleaner  http://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/  Get the slim version of CCleaner. I wish you all the best.
And I agree with everyone else concerning Ad-Aware it's just not as good a avast.
