How do I remove Infection Win32:Patched-NW[Trj]
« on: March 10, 2010, 08:11:09 PM »
Avast found a virus, but I am unable to remove it or put it in the virus chest.  Infection: Win32:Patched-NW[Trj] Process: c;\windows\system32\wuauclt.exe Object: c:\windows\system32\ws2_32.dll  Because of the virus, in order to gain internet access I have to disable avast until I have a connection and then re-enable it.  Help please!!

wuauclt.exe Description

wuauclt.exe is initially a Windows Auto Update Client. wuauclt.exe stays resident in the background and checks Microsoft website for the operating system updates. Originally, wuauclt.exe is a legitimate system process that is located at C:\Windows\System32, but there are cases when wuauclt.exe is actually a disguised virus, Trojan or a worm. If you find wuauclt.exe stored anywhere different from its original location, you should get really suspicious and scan your system for possible threats.
