SecureLine is not secure! DNS LEAK!
« on: May 03, 2013, 05:55:04 PM »
I am coming Private Internet Access user and testing out the new SecureLine from Avast. Apparently, the SecureLine is having DNSLeak.

You can test it here: http://www.dnsleaktest.com/

I've attached the screenshot below, it indicated my anonymity is still being revealed.

This application has better protection against it.

I'm using ipredator, and after reading your post i ran the dns leak test and it looks like
i need a plumber to fix the leak.
So does this mean i'm just wasting my money paying for ipredator? ???

Yes, I've tested many VPN. Not all are secure as you think. There are work around for DNS Leak fix but so far PrivateInternetAccess has provided all in one solution to patch up that hole.

The fix is here but it's not ideal for computer novice. http://www.dnsleaktest.com/how-to-fix-a-dns-leak.php

I would recommend if Avast can look into this to have an automated patching to close the loop hole of DNS leakage.

I don't think it's a loophole.  If you will check Network Connections in the Firewall, you will see Avast has a constant established connection with Google.  How else would Google show up on the test?

That connection is AvastUI.exe

anyway I think it's good find by the original poster and hopefully it gets plugged by Avast! team soon
(or maybe it's some setting not explained well enough/ hidden)

afterall it's in best interest of SecureLine team to actually offer secured VPN

I have been testing SoftEther VPN for several weeks now and find it extremely secure.
No DNS leaks period. ;)
