Security & Recent Scan Concerns...
« on: November 18, 2011, 02:26:00 PM »
Greetings!

After my avast complete scan (30 min. ago) caught several memory loaded spyeye, downloader, dialer, et al. in it's web. The fine insight provided for another gentleman's query has me believing that it was due to the signatures being loaded in the memory. I have learned something of an advanced degree of savvy already!

I run Avast Pro, Malwarebytes pro and win defender simultaneously. Is it OK to do so in anyone's opinion? Should one/two be disconnected?

Also, if one cannot install Win7 SP1 (but everything else OK) would that be indicative of hanky panky?

Thanx,

griff

1. You can safely disable WD.
2. At least it is unusual, that you can't install it.

If you have MBAM Pro, then I would say that Windows Defender is a bit of a waste of time and processing effort. However, Microsoft in their infinite wisdom have screwed us royally again in that you can't uninstall windows defender in windows 7. It is an integral part of the OS installation and can only be disabled not completely removed.

So you could disable it.

I don't know why you can't install win7 SP1, even my tiny little Acer netbook was able to take that SP update. So without knowing why it can't be installed I don't believe anyone can determine it is hanky panky or what.
