avast! Free & Anti-Malware
« on: May 06, 2010, 09:22:23 PM »
Do I need an Anti-Malware program if I am using Avast! Free Edition? I am currently using IObit Security 360 and am curious if I even need it in the first place. If I do could someone here recommend a malware program I should be using along with avast, aswell as any other types of programs I should be using along with Avast.

In theory avast should include even an antispyware module...but, you know, dealing with malwares is a never ending story...so I think it's a good idea to improve your protection using malwarebytes (free) and superantispyware (free). These are a very good detection rate softwares and can be used for an on demand scan every time you want a second opinion about your system security status. Iobit, as far as I know, is a quite new product, not too bad, but if I can give you a suggestion..i would prefer the two i mentioned above. ;)

IObit has stolen the MBAM definitions database.
I won't trust in such a company.

I use Malwarebytes, but the free version does not have realtime protection, that is why I was using IObit 360...after reading more about IObit 360 I have just uninstalled it.
Can anyone here recommend a free Anti-Malware program that has realtime protection ?
Thank you for your suggestions and info.

@ RedFan

Windows Defender on XP is not recommended.

Also use BitRemover for IOBit cleanup:
