5.0?
« on: January 01, 2011, 11:39:20 PM »
My Avast 4.8 recently expired and over the last few weeks I've been trying to get the updated version.  I believe I've downloaded 5.0 at least twice, but my avast is still reading 4.8 and I haven't received any messages stating that the download failed.  Is there another step that I'm missing? ???

Uninstalling the older version and installing the new one? How did you actually upgrade from 4.8 to 5?

It's Windows XP and I just went to the site, it told me to click the version I already had and then it took me to a page where I saved the 5.0 version.  Am I suppose to uninstall 4.8 first?

Fore some systems that is the best option - download 5.1 to your desktop
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall 4.8
reboot
install 5.1
reboot
Update virus defs ;D

Well, a clean install is recommended. First uninstall avast 4.8 and then install the new one. The latest version should be 5.1.864. Good luck.

And here are the links to download the last version of avast!

Free AV: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe
Pro AV: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_pro.exe
Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe

Free Version is for home users. The most complete Free AV on market. (personal opinion)
Pro Version is for paid users with some improvements (example: script shield and sandbox).
And Internet Security is for people who shops online and stuff related. Also paid. (includes an firewall and anti-spam)
