AshAvast.exe is not a valid Win32 application
« on: March 12, 2008, 01:36:03 AM »
Hi guys,

I hope somebody here can help me... I have Avast 4 PRO installed in my PC (Win XP, 2 GB Ram, processor AMD Athlon Dual, 2.50 GHz), some days ago I was downloading a file in internet and I was attacked by a Trojan. Avast detected it but at the same time my PC went in DUMP... it switched off and Win XP restarted automatically.
After this event, I am no longer able to run Avast, I get this error msg:
AshAvast.exe is not a valid Win32 application
I have uninstalled Avast several times using Avast's aswclear application, and re-installed it, but nothing has changed.
I have tried to run Norton Security Scan to understand if I have a virus, but also this AV seems blocked (it is not able to connect to internet to download the updated registers).
The strange thing is that my machine is still working properly... maybe a little bit slower..
Does anybody know what could have happened and how can I re-install Avast on my PC?
Thanks a lot!!!

AshAvast.exe is not a valid Win32 application
This could due to Bagle infection that corrupts avast installation.

Hi berry71,

In the line of Tech's answer, before installing, you should try this:
F-Bagle
The F-Bagle utility disinfects computers infected with the certain Bagle worm variants. Please see the readme.txt file for more information.
Download: http://www.f-secure.com/tools/f-bagle.zip
Download: ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/f-bagle.zip

The unpacked version is available from here:
