windows defender and avast 5
« on: April 22, 2010, 05:28:49 AM »
Hi all,

Recently windows defender stopped working, coincidentally around the time I installed avast version 5. Can somebody tell me if avast negates WD or is it something else? Thanks for any help

No. avast is fully compatible with WD.

no conflict but unneeded. Avast is an (almost) full anti-spyware solution. Only exception is the lack of registry protection (not watching and not scanning either, what Defender does).
I did some test a while ago with Avast:

(can't tell how relevant SpyCar is, I mainly did it for fun...)

I keep Windows Defender updated through its portal:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Definitions/ADL.aspx

Get the latest definitions
Latest definition version: 1.81.209.0

Download then run the 32-bit or 64-bit update for your system:
Install the latest Windows Defender definition updates

I had Avast 4, Windows Defender, Spybot S&D, and SpywareBlaster all together  worked Awesome   But in my own opinion Windows Defender didn't do much so I got rid of it...
