Home Edition Won't Scan
« on: February 12, 2006, 01:47:52 AM »
I just installed the free home edition on an older Compaq (late 90's) Pentium computer running Windows 98 with 32 MB RAM.  The program appeared to install OK.  When I attempt to run a scan, the quick scanner box comes up.  It reads as follows: the number of tested files: 0 and the tested file: Initializing engine, please wait.  After a bit the number of tested files changes to 1 and then the program box disappears and nothing else happens.  I am not running any firewalls or other virus programs.
I am not very knowledgeable with computers so would appreciate any help anyone can give.

You are right on the edge of system requirements - see here http://www.avast.com/eng/system-requirements-avast-home.html I would suggest a ram upgrade to get the best out of your system.  Apart from that  I have come up blank sorry. Mayhap someone else has a suggestion
