avast cannot scan file because its password protected
« on: October 02, 2011, 11:02:40 PM »
Hello,

I finished a full scan with avast and it return a bunch of files it could not scan with the following error: archive is password protected (42056)

I have gone through the forum and have found many similar issues and I think the problem might be remnants of the trend micro I uninstalled but I'm not sure

here's the name of a few of the files:
bgBody.png
bgBodyOpenx.png
bgButton.png
bgButtonFinished.png
bgCheckbox.png
bgCloseprogram.png
iconComplete.gif
iconHeader.png
openx.css
actionaction.js
adobe.js
\language-cs.js
language-ko.js
download.solidconf
etc

when I hover over them it says they are in system volume restore
anyone know what they do or what they are?

thanks in advance for any assistance

files that can not be scanned are just that and does not mean they are infected..

there are many reasons why avast can not scan files like corrupted or protected by another security program like in your case....

you may delete old system restore files to remove the scan error...

OBS: also recomended to run a removal tool to remove any leftovers after Trend Micro as this may conflict with avast

run and reboot - Uninstallers for Security Software  http://thewebatom.net/uninstallers/security-software/

Will that program affect only remnats of trend micro? I am not sure if they really are, which is why I asked if anyone can identify the files before I do anything.

if you click the link i posted and scroll down to #35a you find the trend micro tool. OBS there is 32bit and 64bit
This will remove any leftover after your trend micro removal ( not those inside system restore )

if all the scan error files are located in system restore you can delete the system restore file(s) and create new...the scan error should then be gone..

What OS do you have XP / Vista / win7 ?

Disable System Restore (it will delete the infected restore points) and then Enable it again.
Create a new (clean) restore point then.

first run the Trend removal tool and reboot

Then disable system restore reboot and enable it again

the links do not contain my specific problem.
I have gone through avast forums but not much luck finding a solution
