When i first got my laptop and installed avast, it wasnt long before i received a popup asking me to update java. The pop up looked legitimate and i went ahead and updated. As soon as the download had finished my computer shut down. When i tried to reboot, a whole host of things went off on screen, and i ended up with a screen saying my hard disk was damaged. Windows took me to a screen to try and fix the faults but when it tried, it failed each time. I had to reformat my drive.
Every week at least once when im browsing, i see the same pop up. My partner once was using the computer and didnt know about it, and downloaded it again - same result. Conplete reformat.
Why doesnt Avast pick this up as a threat? Its out there and dangerous. When i phoned the helpline i was told Avast would ignore it because i allowed the download.... Surely Avast should pick this up as a threat before being able to click 'update'. The only way i now deal with the pop up when i see it is to power off the computer - clicking X on the popup downloads the file as well.
