Problem with AshWebSv
« on: February 03, 2006, 08:52:29 PM »
I have avast! Home edition, version 4.6.763.

For several days, I get sometimes the following error :
AshWebSv.exe has encountered an error and must close.

In Windows ( XP Personnal French Edition SP2 ) event log, I have :

"Application failure ashwebsv.exe 4.5.763.0 in xfilter.dll 3.0.0.3644 at offset 00010d13".

Can you tell me where it can come from ?

Sincerely.

First try a repair of avast, you must be online for this.  Go to control panel - add remove programmes - select avast - select remove - you will be give the option to remove - change or repair - select repair and see how that goes..

The problem probably lies in the xfilter.dll app. Who's DLL is this? Will the problem stop when you uninstall that? Is this the "Internet Filter" from 8e6? http://www.8e6.com/index.htm. Or it may also be the Filseclab firewall?

That's not part of avast!

Edit: During the crash, Webshield should create the file ashwebsv.dmp in the <avast>\DATA\log folder. You might send me a copy of this (and please forward it also to the creator of this DLL). If I am right, all we can do with this is bug the developers of the xfilter to fix their code.

Thanks alanrf! Great memory!

It really seems to be the same problem. There are so many various LSP dlls that I sort of lost track.

:)I am a developer of Filseclab. If the Filseclab Personal Firewall installed on your system, please download the update package from http://dl.filseclab.com/update/xfilter_update_pack_en.exe to resolve this problem.

Right now I am not able to access their website (www.filseclab.com) - don't know if the problem is on the side of my ISP or their site is down right now. The last note from developers (in August) was, that the new update will resolve the issue.

Hi lukor,

I just tried the filseclab link and it's working now. It's been almost 6 hours since you tried and perhaps they were doing a website update then or had server problems, etc.    :)

In <avast>\DATA\log folder I don't have any ashwebsv.dmp file.
Just some .mdmp files and a few .log  files.

I've removed filseclab firewall ; I've searched for the xfilter.dll : but no file found.

I think xfilter.dll is a component of filseclab software.

If the problem doesn't appear, I'll tell you.

Sincerely
