BSOD By Avast
« on: March 22, 2012, 09:32:43 PM »
I'm using the latest free version.

System Information (local)
computer name: LAPTOP
windows version: Windows 7 Service Pack 1, 6.1, build: 7601
windows dir: C:\Windows
CPU: AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) Processor L110 AMD586, level: 15
1 logical processors, active mask: 1
RAM: 1877401600 total
VM: 2147352576, free: 1989963776

Crash Dump Analysis
On Thu 22/03/2012 13:23:05 GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\032212-21621-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: aswrdr2.sys (aswrdr2+0x3BCA)
Bugcheck code: 0x1000008E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0x0, 0xFFFFFFFF94EDB5FC, 0x0)
Error: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\aswrdr2.sys
product: avast! Antivirus System
company: AVAST Software
description: avast! WFP Redirect Driver
Bug check description: This indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an exception which the error
handler did not catch.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for
an update for the following driver: aswrdr2.sys (avast! WFP Redirect Driver, AVAST Software).
Google query: aswrdr2.sys AVAST Software KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M

You can e.g. open the mentioned URL in Windows Explorer (just copy&paste the URL into the address bar) - and after it connects, drag&drop the dump file into the right pane (which will appear empty, there are no read/list rights in that folder).

Well, that's why I was suggesting Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) - because I know it works there.
I don't use Firefox, I really don't know if it supports uploading of the files dropped onto the window you see.

But uploading doesn't work in IE either (unless I'm overlooking something), you have to open it in Windows Explorer from there anyway... or not?

It will work in firefox if he has FireFTP add-on as it acts just like a normal FTP client. But you have to be a little familiar with ftp clients.

Further info for Roderunner on how to use Windows Explorer:
- Upload it using the Run command-line in Windows: Windows Key + R (to get the run box), copy and paste this explorer ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming and drag the file into the window, from another explorer window.

####
You do not have read permissions on the explorer ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming location, so you won't see it has been uploaded.

Now you make your first windows explorer connection to the ftp link explorer ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming, now open another explorer window where you locate your unique zip file containing the dump files; drag and drop that file into the other explorer window (right hand side), no need to click enter or any other action.

Yes of course. It will give instructions on how to do it and of course at the end it is Windows Explorer window which will open to drag the file in it. Just sent you a sample test.

@ DavidR

Thanks for the Firefox details to send a ftb file.
