Title: Windows copy not genuine after boot time scan
Post by: Lubis on August 09, 2010, 01:12:53 AM
I'm running avast free antivirus 5.0.594 and scheduled a boot time scan yesterday left it on overnight and then today I had it repair files (or whatever it's called) and put the suspected Trojan,Malware, etc. to the virus chest, then after it was done, my computer said my copy of Windows Vista was not genuine. I find that strange, because I bought this computer brand new at an electronics store, a few years back, and it was made by Gateway. I restarted my computer and the message was gone, should I worry?

Also, areo isn't working properly, when I try to hover over to see the live thumbnails, it works but doesn't disappear when I'm trying to work on other stuff.

"At an electronics store?"
Was it a big-box store like Best Buy? Was it an open-box PC or anything that someone else might have touched?

Try running sfc /scannow  from a command prompt.
