what bothers me really is the implications now of a corrupted file uploaded to their servers, now present in our systems, and breaking the ability of Avast to update on affected computers ... what a mess ... now we're waiting for a "special" program to fix that  :-\ .. this said I can be as patient as necessary, everything else works fine, and I was still able to get 27-0. earlier today.

You can't update, uninstall, repair or anything like that.

A reinstall would work as well according to Vlk.

Not wanting to be bullish or stupid...I still find it abnormal to have to reinstall Win7 64bits from scratch or put the image or go through Recovery. My signature is outdated has I only have a FW and MBAM and Avira which finally runs stable and fine on my PC without having to undergo all this mess. I'm not saying go to Avira, I'm only saying to Vlk and others to learn from their errors! ???
N.B.:Avira as Avast has become bloated in order to increase their malware fight strength that's why you have to get rid of registry and drivers remnant in order for them to work properly. That's why I don't like this thread to make people mess up their registry

No, the reinstall was only meant for avast! and only for this specific situation, not your OS..!!

Yes but you can get rid of It only in safe mode because that "bad update" disables totally avast! in control panel

So..?? Either do it, or just wait for the announced tool, which will fix it as well.

@Tetsuo

Thank you for the information.

I let it finish it's scan while watching the File System Shield. Once it added them to the transient cache, it seemed to run at normal speed now.

All my virus definitions both normal and streaming are up to date. Received a streaming update about 6 minutes ago. Will I be required to install this new fix?

After years of using Avast, I've had big problems with Avast 7 killing connectivity. After a lot of trying, I've given up and installed another product for a 30 day trial till this gets sorted out. Question: which files should I search for to completely remove Avast. (I do plan to reinstall it in the near future). Thanks,
