Bamital-af has killed a computer!

My scuba buddy downloaded an attachment on a fake UPS email.  :-\ I think maybe his Avast and Ad-Aware programs were both in need of updating. Avast was blocking it but could not remove it - gave 3 "read only" reports.

After updating and running Avast, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and Malwarebytes, it was still there.  I read on one of these help forums that someone had used Norman Malware Cleaner so I looked at it, seemed helpful, and gave it a try.

It started scanning, found the infection, then the computer died!  Any attempts to restart it normally or in Safe Mode seem to loop thru problems, then restart. I am dumbfounded.

Thanks for your help...

Altarir.

No, was tempted but didn't.

I've told him for years to back up his files to external hard drive. If we survive this, I bet he gets one now.

So how do I get the computer to respond, and how to remove this infection..?

If his files are backed up reformating is not such a big deal and that will definitely get that nasty thing gone.
