Title: ** INTRODUCING: New Official Avast Program Update 6.0.1289 **
Post by: Vlk on September 06, 2011, 08:43:11 PM
Hi all,

I'm glad to announce the general availability of a new avast program update, version 6.0.1289.

Here's a list of most important changes:
- New Script Shield - now scanning deeper and supporting more host processes
- Web Shield now scanning all processes by default
- Stability improvements in aswSP.sys
- Better tracking of file sources
- WebRep now working in new versions of Firefox
- Under-the-hood improvements in the Behavior Shield and Sandbox modules
- Solved a compatibility problem with certain Steam-based games
- Minor improvements in the product UI
- Various other security and stability related fixes

Special thanks goes to everyone who helped testing the beta builds.

It is recommended to upgrade to this latest version by using the in-product updater. Alternatively, you can use these direct

download links:

Free AV: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe
Pro AV: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_pro.exe
IS: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe

Note: If you have any problems with this new version, please do NOT post to this thread; start a new topic instead. Ideally one topic per issue.

Thanks
Vlk

I take it that the links in this post are for the failed update.  You'll post news then when there is a "fixed" version?  I uninstalled this update (clean) and went back to 1203 and everything is back to working.

I believe this is the same setup as the failed one.  Exact same size on download - and version hasn't changed (something I would guess that would get bumped so to avoid confusion between two different releases...maybe my guess is wrong though?

Use the in-product updater as usual. There's absolutely no need to download and install the new version from scratch.

Should be in its own topic as Vlk said in the first post of this topic.

However, this is essentially correct as the Web Shield now monitors all HTTP traffic, so it would go through the proxy, controlled by avastSvc.exe.

same problem as before with wireless icon (yellow ! mark) as in he beta thread on more than one system, fresh install and update same results

its driving me nuts!! just updated 2 other systems and now they have the same problem with the yellow exclamation mark on the wireless icon in the taskbar, so def not just this one system. also ran awsclear with same results.

why has no one mentioned this from avast many people in the beta thread mentioned it and there was not a single response that i saw from avast??? and yet it was released with the same problem??? not cool

I have the same problem
after updating to avast 6.0.1289 and reboot 3 of my computers I get wireless icon yellow ! mark and wired icon yellow ! mark
all 3 computers have windows 7 64bit

Tech support already trying to find the firewall bug that effectively lets everything go through despite whatever your settings might be.  The error has been repeated on the Avast side, so hold on; there is likely to be another update before long.

I lost track of the exact update count over the last two weeks but I think avast! 6.0 is leading Firefox 7.0 Beta ;D ;D

Of course all of this comes in the middle of me installing Chrome 13.x and configuring it up with extensions and what not.

All seems fine though I believe there is still no Script Shield support for Chrome.

Will Avast autoupdate itself to the new version?  Recently, I have installed Avast on multiple computers for my friends and family while at the same time making sure "automatic update" was selected under "programs," just for these type of version update occasions.

They are set and forget type of users, so can't I assume they would go out of their way unless a Avast alert told them to.  Would be nice to know that I wouldn't have to intervene to make sure they are optimally protected.

If you have set the Update program to Auto, then yes, they will get updated automatically (although they'll have to reboot the computer in order to finish the update process - avast will ask them to do that). This will happen sometime in the course of the next 7 days.

It really depends on the actual page. Some pages are very JavaScript-intensive, and there may indeed be some slowdown there...

Questions really should be in a new topic, hopefully we can kill this in this post otherwise it will have to be in a new topic.

It means 'all' HTTP traffic, so other applications, not necessarily browsers which can also make http connections.

No you can't specify which applications or exclude applications, it is either all or nothing with the new feature. You can check the 'Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only' option and that effectively brings the web shield back to scanning as it did before.

i did notice under w7 a higher cosuming of cpu surfing with firefox with web shield ON
<snip>

Essentially surfing with firefox wouldn't change as the web shield isn't scanning anything more in firefox than it was before. But it is hard to say as browsing can be different from day to day and I really don't know how you can attribute the increase in CPU to the web shield as its resource use comes under the avastSvc.exe process. However, the Script Shield may now be scanning some web page content when browsing with firefox now, as mentioned above.

Any response or further questions should be in a new topic.

Autosandbox related, maybe.
I had found a mismatch of file sources when autosandbox window appeared.

i did notice under w7 a higher cosuming of cpu surfing with firefox with web shield ON
<snip>
Isn't this caused by Script Shield? As DavidR says there is no changes in Web Shield which affects Firefox.

OK its ugly, so what, it is cosmetic, heaven forbid that you get so many virus alerts that this is actually an issue, rather than your browsing habits.

As RejZoR has done disable the update notification pop-up (you still get the audio notification). Or dial the pop-up display duration down to a few seconds in the avastUI, Settings, Popups, rather than the default and you only get two of those per day on average.

Script Shield and Firefox speed on a W7 SP1 x64

Now using Firefox 7.0 Beta 4 and Chrome 13.x.

In only about two days of using both ISTM that Firefox 7.0 Beta 4 is faster than Chrome 13.x.
Of course I could just be imagining that :o

In the real world it seems to render Java script faster than Chrome.
On the other hand Chrome appears to heads over tails better than Firefox with respect to video play.

I have not noticed any slowdown in Firefox 7.0 Beta 4 used alongside Avast 6.0.1289 with all the real-time shields enabled.

In fact I would say that FF 7.0 Beta 4 appears to their fastest real world version yet. 8)

Update total downer for me.

Since hitting that update button I´m getting a Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Bluescreen of Death on my WinXP(SP3).  ???

Already tried uninstalling(properly with your cleaner tool and CCleaner even) and reinstalling.
But it´s always the same.
Without AVAST everything fine. After AVAST -> bluescreen.

I'm wondering if there's any Online Armor user out there who reads this main thread. Just in case, could you please take a look at this other thread I started about Firefox 6 and the Script Shield: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=84334.0

Thanks so much in advance. I just need to be sure that OA is not part of the problem I'm having with the Script Shield.

If I'm not supposed to post this message here, I'm sorry - please delete it.

perfect job! Thx for update!

But big white button on the pop-up update notification - looks like alien! Can you do it in style "mark as a false alarm" in the notifications of threats?
:)

We complained about that ugly white button but they disregarded our opinion unfortunately.
I just disabled that ugly popup completely because of it.
do you mean enable the game mode ?
or edit with resourcehack and delete the white button from the pop up ?

i go back to the previous version

why don't open a poll ?
i like the new pop up design
i hate the new pop up design
i don't like the new pop up deisgn

i don't have screenshot about the new pop ups , i go back

what do you think ? at least to know what the avast folks think about it

Please not another set of death by poll, it will serve little purpose as those visiting the forums represents a very small minority of the 132,414,749 active users worldwide. Not to mention those that don't like it have already made that pretty clear and Vlk has responded to those comments in the beta builds.

Anyone that would go back to an earlier version just because of aesthetics is cutting off their nose to spite their face IMHO. When the changes in this program update include stability fixes, it would be crazy to dump those because of aesthetics.

I think he meant unchecking "Show notification box after automatic update" in Settings -> Update -> Details.

Hello

Ever since the "Update 6.0.1289" I've had to manually update the program version and then I'm told to restart my computer, as in the maintenance section the last updating attempt still hasn't occurred. I'm using the Avast Free version and am fully registered. This started a couple of days ago could someone please help.

Seems fine and I actually see script shield activity in IE9 on Win 7 64. ;D

Now for the bad news. There is no Script Shield activity in Chrome.  :(

No activity from Windows Media Player either.

I thought it said during the beta that it would be but now I see that it said "coming soon". Aside from that, why does it now not show activity for WMP when it used to? It seems to me that the Script Shield has been restricted rather than enhanced as was advertised.

Are you talking about some specific sites (that may be very JavaScript-intensive), or just generally, that browsing "anywhere" somehow feels heavier?

Thanks

Speaking about translations, can the page which has virus information etc (from pop-up) be translated? Otherwise there's no point of this option for non-native English speakers because they just don't understand it.

Guess it depends which language you use/speak. ;)
E.g. the German results are shown translated.

Well done avast!. I dont see anything wrong here for now... There maybe that glitch that appear again its the scan sensivity if you do "More details" alias "Plus de details" in french you can see Quick scan and others scans to dont got the orange bars for adjust it...

Also maybe another minor that can make the UI so bad is that "Logs scans" alias "Rapports de scans" its got a small weird finish in the scroll bar...

There a little problem on the WebRep again (oh thank igor if its was you that you correct the WebRep miss spell in the Help Center its better now, but there others misses spells that aint very very major so be sure you made a happy user so take your beer and be relax lol) "TELECHARGEMEN" in IE is wrong and in firefox "TELECHARGEMENTS" is good... Also Firefox has a big bug on the UI look the corners its all tell you...

PS : Is it me or the avast! News is loading slow or its normal ? Oh by the way i noticed my processor to work more because of script shield or web shield but its not a problem its dont slow down anything as i can see for now... Still its more secure for now so i dont got nothing to say.

This build is going more and more stable.

Thank to correct those problems.

Hi Vlk, I went from the last stable version with only: File, Web, Network, and Behavior shields as well as autosandbox too. Then when the new version came out, I upgraded via the UI, rebooted and then changed the configuration to add the script shield, but keep everything else the same. After a reboot, I noticed my avast! icon spinning non-stop, but it eventually settled down, so all was good. I used x32 IE9 to start browsing to all of my favorite spots, and each site took maybe 2-5 seconds longer to load then I was used to.

So I did a full scan with avast! (to load things into the cache, although I'm not sure if that's how it works, but it makes me feel better after an upgrade) and then I hopped on the web again, and I noticed the same slow downs. Then I opened the UI, and I saw that the script shield was just pounding away. The file, web and network were all normal, but I kept the UI open as I loaded new pages, and each time the script shield would dominate the scanning.

So I removed the script shield, rebooted, and all is normal again.........I do not have x32/x64 java on this machine, and I have active x filtering on in IE9. If you need anything else, let me know, and thanks for the great product. I'm currently using the free version, even though I have a paid active license with 2yrs left..........The free version is that good!

Yes. It's good to have a link to extra info but the size and starkness of the button is aesthetically disproportionate (i.e. too big and too white) to its importance.

Got the same problem as mariajose2, but its not long lasting (only once) and it is definitely not reproducible.
This is what happened:
1. Updated to latest version
2. right click win 7 desktop show gadgets
3. unknowingly clicked something on avast gadget
4. Safezone (man, I thought that was paid and I was running on free version, daydreamed it turned free in the latest version)
5. Couldn't get back to desktop or launch the safezone browser
6. Stuck with it until forced reboot.

How did that happen?

Probably you should check performance issues related to the Script Shield with NoScript/Adblock etc turned completely off...

@sw, haven't you updated avast from free version to IS version? I mean, two days ago avast started asking some users for free 15-days IS trail, is this your case? You can check it if you open avast UI and there should be "free"/"internet security" in the title (or there's subscription info in Maintenance tab). Thanks.

Nope, avast prompted me but I didn't, free is good enough. Then the above happened, but was never reproducible. No more safezone freezes because am not using IS. But still wondering what happened though.

Why did you do this? Why did you started advertising?
Me, and as I know, lots of other users liked that avast! didn't advertise itself - but now, it usually advertises itself... it's annoying.
I tried IS because of the offer and the promise that we can switch back by pressing only one button.
To be honest, I didn't like the IS, so I switched back. Then, I lost my browser's internet access...
I had to uninstall avast! in safe mode and then reinstall it in normal mode.
Strange thing happened: avast! did remember some of the settings I changed (e.g.: ask mode in Behaviour S.). It's not a problem, but I don't understand it.

What is this SAFEZONE/SAFEZONE BROWSER?

I have Vista sp2 and Win7 64bit sp1 both running Avast 6.0.1203 free.  Before I upgrade to 6.0.1289 I'd like to know what this Safezone is.  I don't want to get stuck in it, as I've read some people have experienced.

Thank you.

Check the avast! Help Center in the UI as that has the information. Not that it will worry you as the module is only in the paid avast versions.

Short. non-technical answer is it is another desktop, isolated from the main system and uses the SafeZone Browser again isolated within the safezone. This is most commonly used for on-line banking or other security/confidential connections.

Hi. Just let AvastFree AV upgrade itself to ver 6.0.1289. No problems rebooting etc. I can see it has a revamped script shield so I'm wondering if that explains what I'm facing...

Commodo firewall has started asking for new permissions to local loopback port 12080. I have the firewall on Custom to keep more control over rules.  Since upgrading Avast, when I open my 32 bit IE9 (in the 32 bit program folder), a winsxs iexplorer.exe file (see below) also now needs permission to the loopback zone, remote address 127.0.0.1: port 12080 :-

C:\Windows\winsxs\wow64_microsoft-windows-i..etexplorer-optional_31bf3856ad364e35_9.4.8112.16421_none_17a944edb4ca4c7a\
iexplorer.exe

It then asks for access to DNS lookup. This was never necessary before as IE9 already has a set of rules. See pic of original rules and new separate one. IE9 isn't the only app now wanting loopback to port 12080 (svchost also wants it for windows update) but it's the only one firing up a winsxs file that never raised itself before. Is there a tidier way for me to set the firewall rules for the script shield, assuming that's the reason, or just live with the new rules?   :)

The localhost port 12080 is the port that is used by the Web Shield (controlled by avastSvc.exe) so that HTTP traffic can be scanned.

This new beta version is just perfect. I just solved my problem with URL http://tg24.sky.it/tg24/diretta.html (http://tg24.sky.it/tg24/diretta.html). I could not have the stream because Windows Defender Resident protection was blocking it (heuristic or somewhat like that). I Shut the program off and here I got my news channel from Italy!!! 8) Nothing to do with Avast beta as I suspected first, everything is fine.
PS:Although I had to hit reload after retry, I don't know, the site may have problems

Time to update your forum signature now, avast 5.0.507 ;D
lol and IE 8 :P

I did the automatic update to 6.0.1289 but the browser (opera,IE, ff) stopped  displaying any content despite reboots and cache flushes etc. However windows programs that access the internet for content (e.g. weather app) still got data from the internet.

I switched off the real-time Web-protection in Avast and that solved the problem.

Win 7 32bit, opendns, no other virus checkers, no proxy.

Yes, I have the windows firewall.
But when I tried de-activating the firewall there was no difference... avast web-protection still stopped all html content getting to the browser.

Try ticking the scan traffic from well known browser processes only in the web shield expert settings.

Just to make sure I am understood on this so as to not cause any misunderstanding.

No luck. I tried different combinations of the main tab of web-protection but the only thing that worked was switching off Web protection with the red square button.

Is this version the newest version of Avast Free?  Ever since I updated to this version, when I come back to my computer after leaving it in sleep mode, I get a reboot screen and the message that Windows encountered an unexpected shutdown.  Running Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron 1440.

Hi All!

Time to time I get message you can see in the attachment. It has started after the Avast upgraded to 6.0.1289.
In the error.log following messages are present:
Quote
Thu Sep 15 14:23:44 2011
 -> topLevelExceptionFilter addr=7c812aeb code=e06d7363
Thu Sep 15 14:23:44 2011
 -> Calling generateExceptionReport
Thu Sep 15 14:23:44 2011
 -> Returning EXCEPTION_CONTINUE_SEARCH.

Fri Sep 16 08:06:06 2011
 -> topLevelExceptionFilter addr=7c812aeb code=e06d7363
Fri Sep 16 08:06:06 2011

Fri Sep 16 08:06:06 2011
 -> Returning EXCEPTION_CONTINUE_SEARCH.

What can I do to avoid it? It's so annoying =)

just installed avast on Windows 8 Developer preview.

None of the Shields will start and the summary page says "The avast! antivirus program has been stopped, or is in an inconsistent state. Please re-start the program to resume protecting your system."

When I try to register for a free license it fails and I get the error "The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error"

I'm not worried about this at all since its not even a beta product of Windows 8. Just reporting my findings for you guys' information. :)

The automatic option was removed from previous versions to avoid false positives being moved at boot time.
You still can choose the action for all detected infections at boot time.
I'll say that, before running it, if you can, run a full scan within Windows.

I don't know if it's a right place to ask, but I don't want to create a new topic for it.
I am looking forward avast! 7. When will the first beta be released? When will the final be released? Maybe in February?
Now, I don't use avast!, I use another vendor's product, because I had some troubles (PC slowed down, Internet slower down very much and some minor problems). But I would like to return to avast! soon, because I got used to it.

Hi all,

I'm glad to announce the general availability of a new avast program update, version 6.0.1289.

... ... ...

Note: If you have any problems with this new version, please do NOT post to this thread; start a new topic instead. Ideally one topic per issue.

Thanks
Vlk

Hi! I'm a typically content (and often tickled) avast! user. I am, however, wary of updating due to previous issues with various program updates (only once with avast!, version 5 I think). I usually browse this thread prior to updating to see if any others have issues that I might expect to have due to similar system/programs/set-up. I don't have time to browse the forums beyond this thread for update related issues at this time, but may this weekend. I do look forward to updating soon.

ON the other hand, I appreciate the attempt to organize the thread separate from help given to users. I never thought this was an appropriate thread for extended technical assistance. Single reply posts with answers/suggestions/corrections seem on topic enough tho. Truly, I understand and appreciate the request note by Vlk.

Vlk, I respectfully request that future notes ask for update outcome and relevant details (successful, and noted improvements OR problematic and noted issues), while expressing that ALL HELP for problems should be rendered in a new topic. I appreciate any consideration you would give to my request; I shan't adore you or avast! or these forums any less for denying this request. I know you all have much to consider and manage as it is...

Thanks for making such a great anti-virus program. Always a pleasure. ~Nom @Version 6.0.1203

P.S. Regarding the aesthetics of previously mentioned button... It may be a bit large, but in the end, the functionality matters more to me. If I wanted to have avast! please me aesthetically, I'd go back to avast! 5, lol... mainly because I prefer the former voice. Everything about avast! seems friendlier and more tasteful than any other av program that I have used thus far, not to mention that it seems to work best for me.  ;)

Got Windows 8 x32 Developers Preview up and running on what was previously a dusty Netbook not doing much of anything.

Except for avast! IS all of my Apps and Utility programs appear to be basically working fine except for a couple of minor things.

AIS crashed my the system after W8 said there was a compatibility problem.  Couldn't reboot or do anything but reinstall W8.

It appears that MSFT has made some changes to the kernal that is causing some incompatibility problems with some AV and/or Firewall programs.

Anyway, I replaced Windows Defender with MSE which works just fine with W8 DP.

However, my Netbook is missing AIS. :( :(

Anxiously awaiting AIS 7.0 Beta :)

Well win8 preview builds aren't allowing anti-viruses until it gets to beta stage (mentioned in another topic, according to one of the avast team), so it isn't too surprising that compatibility issues are reported.

not yet, because DP 8102 doesn't allow avast component to load itself - they block us, today I'll speak with MS devs here at build conference how we can fix it; unfortunately, you will have to wait for the official win8 beta, because they have to remove blocking from their code

That is not very nice of them ;D.  Joke

Please, go to folder \windows\minidump and send the newest (recent) .mdmp files for analysis.
There is also C:\Windows\Memory.dmp file.
Better if you can add some information about the BSOD and the link for this topic in a readme.txt file, compress (zip) together the readme.txt and the Memory.dmp, rename it with a unique name.
Upload it to this anonymous write-only ftp server location: ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming/

Warning, computer numpty here!
I paid for the new upgrade yesterday.
I'm using Windows XP.
There was a problem during first installation, so I uninstalled and reinstalled.
Whenever I connect to the net now, I get a popup stating "recovered from a serious error". I send the report but am redirected to a Microsoft page suggesting I "consider a BIOS upgrade".
I called the Avast helpline number and was informed that I could have malware or similar on my computer. I was then offered a 12 month Technical Support Package for $190 AUS. It was put to me that accepting their offer was cheaper than the competition, I was then asked if I knew the cost of purchasing a new computer? Hard sales!
Is this company, "Bomgar", really the Avast Tech Support? After informing them that I cannot afford this offer, I was basically left to fend for myself.
So, can anyone suggest how to solve the initial problem, and secondly, is this really what happens when customers have a problem? Finally, does this appear a problem with Windows or Avast? I only had this problem after upgrading yesterday.

@grant59,

If Avast *IS* working, but you are worried about some malware, please start your own new topic under the "Worms and Virus" forum section.

If Avast is not even working, please start your own new topic in the Avast Free/Pro/Suite section.

You will receive better help posting a new topic, in the adequate section, than posting in this one.

Updated late last night to the new RTW version of Firefox 7.0. (You are currently on the Release Update Channel :))

WebRep and Real-Time Shields are working fine.

By the way for those that use AIS and Thunderbird, Thunderbird 7.0 is also now a RTW.

Best to start a new topic of your own and give more details (what you were doing, BSOD information, etc.) and upload dump files to avast, more information on that in your new topic, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0) and click the New Topic button.

Could you please provide me with the information about changes in these new packages?
Thanks in advance.

You don't say what files these digital signatures relate.

If it is an installation file only (setup_av_free.exe, etc.) then the virus definitions inside would be periodically updated or you could be installing the latest avast version but a very old. So the act of updating the contents would require the digital signature to be updated also.

I have an old version of the installation file for 6.0.1289 and that was digitally signed on the 6th September 2011. Hover over the installation file and it will tell you what the program versions.

The screenshot doesn't show the version only the digital signature information.

As I said you will have to find out what version is contained within, e.g. hover the mouse over the file it will tell you what version is in there.

Without knowing the version number I can't say what changes have happened.

If you already have avast 6.0.1289 you have the latest program version and any change to the digital signature would reflect the update of the virus definitions contained within the installation package.

Oh, thanks for letting me know that. Now I understand that I have the same version of avast as you but with the updated virus definitions.
Thanks again for your help!

Well, that didn't last long.  About two days to be exact.

Firefox has now released 8.0B1.

I just installed it and WebRep is working with it.

One caveat.  You made need to install the Add-On Compatibility Reporter 0.9.2 from the Firefox Add-on website to get WebRep to work.

The other thing that you need to do is to make sure to check off the avast! WebRep box in the new version of the check of add-ons during the installation of Firefox 8.0B1.  If you forget you can always go to Tools-----Addons--------WebRep click on Enable and restart Firefox.  It should then show up on the Firefox Navigation Toobar when Firefox restarts and be working.

Almost forgot

Below is the link with the enhancements in 8.0.  You will also find a link to the download of 8.0B1 on the link below.

There are a couple of security enhancements in 8.0 including

Quote
WebSockets updates: Firefox now prevents the use of plaintext WebSockets when created from an SSL page, which improves security for users.

Good luck. :)

Detected a bug!!! May be. Some files belonging to my HP Games folder were detected as virus (susp). I think it's the heuristic or behavioral componant because by running a simple scan the files are sane. Uploading them to Jotti or VirusTotal gives me green checked results too. When I try to tell Avast in the scan results to "Ignore the file", well nothing happens!! To quarantine or repair them, I have to boot safe mode and then run Avast result scan screen. Since I had last year the same virus detection problems when using the Comodo 5 suite (which I removed for incompatibilities with some critical Windows Updates), I decided to remove the folder (since I don't use games...!).
Anyways, being the files "sane" I would have kept the folder if Avast would have given me this opportunity. When trying to send or email the file to Avast, I was stopped as a warning message was telling me it was a virus. I'm sure 99% it was FP, though! :(
N.B.:Of course, I had the option of keeping them in quarantine, but did not like it! ;)

This really has nothing to do with the program version as it is a VPS/engine issue and should be reported in the Viruses and Worms forum.

You are partly rigth, but I am reporting about a feature in the scan result (the "IGNORE ACTION") that is not working in the scan result screen. At least, it is what I experienced this afternoon! :P

Rather depends on what you mean by Ignore and what avast means by Ignore. The avast meaning is that it doesn't take any of the normal actions, move to chest, delete, etc. All it does is leave the file in place and takes no action (well nothing happens!! would be a good description of Ignore/take no action), it doesn't send it to the chest or repair it or allow you to run it, etc.

Thanks DavidR, this is now clearer though what I want is to tell Avast to not detect those files as infected again, rather the way PrevX does, to tell the program it's FP and not to detect it again as a virus. Normally, I would have sent them to AILWIL and wait for the next VPS to come but I couldn't send those file because of Avast itself!!! :P
PS: In fact, even by lowering the sensibility to normal, Avast still detected those files as viruses in a screen saver scan for example but in the quarantine they were no longer viruses. Double standard. ???

In which case you need to A) ensure that they are not infected (virustotal), B) send the samples to avast for analysis and C) exclude the files from scans. I don't know why you couldn't send them, you can manually add the file to the chest (copies the file, the original remains in place) and submit the file from the chest.

Submitting the files from the chest, at least for 2 of them, did not work. I did not try to exclude them, it may have been the solution too. But I'd like to see beside the repair and quarantine action in the scan result screen the "False Positive" option with automatical sending to the AVAST VPS laboratory. It would be nice, if not too much work. ;)

This really is time to take this outside this topic as it isn't related now and I will try to help with the problem, as I don't see how it failed (you didn't say). So this needs to continue in its own topic.

Does anyone know if this solved the GEDIT error in ACADLT 2002?
I was told this would be fixed in the September release in a PM from an AVAST team member, but want to be sure before I install it.

Your either very late in updating to 6.0.1289 or this post should have been posted in the new beta thread for 6.0.1351 http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=88214.0

The new one is a pre-release build (quasi beta), so I wouldn't go for that unless you are happy that pre-release versions may not be glitch free.
